Description
Start your legal career somewhere you'll actually learn-and be trusted to do real work.Â
Join a boutique intellectual property law firm representing biotechnology, pharmaceutical, university, and life sciences innovators. You'll gain hands-on experience supporting real patent matters while building the foundation for a long-term legal career.
If you're trying to break into the legal field, most roles will have you watching from the sidelines.Â
This isn't one of them.Â
At Hylton-Rodic Law, you'll be part of the core engine that keeps a law firm running-working directly on real matters, with real responsibility, early.Â
What This Role Actually DoesÂ
You will own the day-to-day operational backbone of our legal work:Â
- Intake new client matters and ensure they are properly opened and tracked
- Maintain critical legal deadlines and update our docketing system daily
- Support U.S. patent filings and patent prosecution workflows
- Coordinate with attorneys and legal support staff to keep matters moving efficiently
- Communicate professionally with clients and foreign associates (primarily via email) regarding filings, deadlines, and matter logistics
This is a high-precision, execution-focused role.Â
What You'll Be Measured OnÂ
- Accuracy: zero missed deadlines, high attention to detail Â
- Responsiveness: intake handled immediately, docket updated daily Â
- Reliability: workflows run consistently without follow-up Â
- Communication: you ask questions early and clearly Â
- Ownership: you don't wait-you move work forward Â
What Success Looks LikeÂ
By 30 days:
You're handling intake and docketing with support and asking the right questionsÂ
By 60 days:
You're independently managing core workflows and keeping pace with workloadÂ
By 90 days:
You fully own your responsibilities and operate with minimal oversightÂ
This Role Is NOT For You If:Â
- You wait for instructions instead of asking questions Â
- You prefer to "figure things out quietly" instead of confirming Â
- You struggle with organization or detail-heavy work Â
- You want a slow-paced or low-accountability environment Â
- You're only interested in a job-not learning and growing Â
Requirements
Required BackgroundÂ
- Bachelor's degree required (legal studies or a science-related field is a plus)
- 0-2 years of professional experience
- Prior legal or administrative experience is helpful but not required-we provide structured training for motivated candidates
- Strong organizational, written communication, and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail
The Kind of Person Who Thrives HereÂ
- Highly detail-oriented and organized Â
- Proactive-you ask questions early, not after mistakes Â
- Humble and coachable Â
- Comfortable in a fast-moving, growing environment Â
- Interested in law, IP, or legal operations Â
