What is an entry level ICT?

An Entry Level ICT (Information and Communication Technology) job is a beginner-level position in the IT field, typically involving tasks like troubleshooting technical issues, supporting network systems, and assisting with software installation. These roles are ideal for recent graduates or individuals transitioning into the tech industry. Common job titles include IT Support Technician, Help Desk Analyst, and Junior Network Administrator. What does an entry level ICT do?

A typical day for an Entry Level ICT professional usually involves providing technical support to staff or clients, troubleshooting hardware or software issues, and assisting with routine maintenance tasks on computers and networks. You may also help set up new equipment, monitor system performance, and escalate complex problems to more experienced team members. Most work is done in an office, help desk, or IT support center, though some roles may involve occasional site visits. Collaboration with other IT staff and clear communication with non-technical users are important aspects of the job. Over time, you'll gain exposure to a variety of technologies and processes, preparing you for more advanced ICT opportunities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the entry level ICT position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level ICT professional, you need basic knowledge of computer hardware, software troubleshooting, and networking concepts, often backed by a relevant diploma or certification such as CompTIA A+ or Cisco CCNA. Familiarity with operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), remote support tools, and basic network management systems is typically required. Strong communication, problem-solving abilities, and a willingness to learn are critical soft skills for success in this position. These skills enable effective technical support, smooth collaboration, and ongoing growth in a fast-paced, evolving technology environment.
