What is an Entry Level Hospital job?

An entry-level hospital job is a position that requires little to no prior experience and provides an opportunity to start a career in healthcare. These roles can include positions like patient transporters, medical assistants, administrative clerks, dietary aides, or environmental service workers. They often involve supporting medical staff, assisting patients, or handling clerical tasks. Entry-level hospital jobs can be a great way to gain valuable experience and advance within the healthcare industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Entry Level Hospital position, and why are they important?

To succeed in an entry-level hospital role, candidates typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, basic computer literacy, and a keen attention to detail. Familiarity with hospital information systems, electronic health records (EHRs), and safety protocols is often required, while specific roles may ask for relevant certifications such as CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS). Strong interpersonal skills, reliability, and a willingness to learn are important soft skills that help you work effectively with patients and healthcare teams. These abilities are essential for providing supportive hospital services, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining efficient daily operations.

What are typical daily responsibilities for an entry-level hospital position?

Entry-level hospital positions often involve a mix of administrative and patient support tasks, depending on the department. Duties may include greeting patients, scheduling appointments, assisting with patient transport, restocking supplies, maintaining clean and safe environments, and entering information into hospital systems. You’ll often work closely with nurses, doctors, and other healthcare staff to support patient care and ensure smooth workflow throughout your shift. Adaptability is key, as you may be assigned to different areas or tasks as hospital needs change. These roles provide valuable hands-on experience and can be a stepping stone to more advanced positions in the healthcare field.

Job description

Description:

Are you interested in a career in the fun, exciting, yet stable field of civil engineering? DCCM takes pride in our exceptional staff and considers our team critical to the company’s success. Providing professionals with the tools and training they need to achieve excellence in their careers is key to employee engagement and productivity. Our goal is to foster a work environment that attracts top talent, inspires innovation, and renders excellence in service to our clients.

Our Power Services team is hiring a Designer I to support the planning and design of power distribution facilities. You’ll work alongside engineers and experienced designers to develop overhead electric designs and help move projects from concept to construction.

What to expect:

  • Entry-level opportunity with training and mentoring—built as a long-term career path in the utility power industry
  • Blend of office-based design work and field visits/field checks (as needed)
  • Work on electric distribution projects using industry tools and utility standards
  • Develop skills that translate across the industry, with room to advance into higher-level design, project support, and specialized utility work

What you will do:

  • Gather and validate project information using tools such as GIS and Google Earth.
  • Review project requirements, identify constraints, and propose practical design solutions.
  • Design overhead and underground electric distribution projects using engineering/design software.
  • Learn and apply utility design and construction standards.
  • Interpret Right-of-Way documents and incorporate requirements into project designs.
  • Perform field checks and document site conditions that impact design and constructability.
  • Request survey & staking support; when needed, stake projects independently.
  • Create design sketches, drawings (including CAD-based drafting when applicable), work orders, and material lists for assigned projects.
  • Assist with design checks and basic analysis to confirm connectivity and structural considerations.
  • Conduct visual inspections of power facilities (poles, wires, transformers, and related equipment) as needed.
  • Work safely in varied environments—from office settings to outdoor field conditions.
  • Drive a personal vehicle in different weather and terrain conditions, as required.

Who you are:

You’re curious, detail-oriented, and comfortable learning new software and processes. You communicate clearly, ask good questions, and enjoy solving problems. You can manage multiple priorities and are open to working in different settings—from an office environment to outdoor field conditions—depending on project needs.

What you bring:

  • Required: High school diploma or GED
  • Preferred: Associate degree or higher
  • Interest in starting a career in an engineering- or construction-related field
  • Demonstrated performance in work, school, or other commitments (e.g., strong GPA, awards, references)
  • Comfort using common software tools; willingness to learn new programs quickly
  • Preferred: CADD and/or drafting coursework or hands-on drafting experience
  • Preferred: Construction/engineering-related degree or certificate
  • New grads and entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply

The things about us you will appreciate!

Our comprehensive benefit package includes the following:

  • Three medical plan options (2 PPOs and a HDHP)
  • Dental & vision plans
  • Company-paid group life, short and long-term disability insurance
  • Voluntary Life Insurance
  • Flexible and Dependent care spending accounts
  • Additional Supplemental plans (Critical Illness, Hospital Indemnity, Accident)
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) which starts accruing upon hire
  • 10 Paid Holidays
  • Alternative Work Schedules
