Project Description:
DRT provides data, technology, and mission support to its federal public health partners. We collaborate to address diverse, complex, and emerging problems within the public health domains of environmental health, infectious disease, chronic disease, and emergency preparedness/response. Our support drives the adoption of emerging best practices and technologies to increase the usefulness and value of public health data. Our team develops innovative data capture and analysis techniques in the field to enhance emergency response efforts all around the world.
Job Summary:
The Public Health Data Scientist works directly with public health data analysts, coordinators, epidemiologists, and developers. The Scientist analyses, cleans, organizes, and provides recommendations on public health data for use in public health surveillance systems. Working with technologies like Python, SAS, R, or SQL, the Scientist prepares data for visualization and user interaction. They access public health databases, data structures, and data flows to recommend and perform the import, structuring, and encoding of public health data. The Scientist supports public health analyses by identifying and implementing the best techniques and solutions to access, transform, and access data.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement advanced data management systems design, or redesign, to utilize new technology
  • Gathers, analyzes, and cleanses public health and geospatial data sets
  • Applies analytical, statistical, and programmatic approaches to data
  • Develops, codes, tests, and maintains database programs
  • Maintains data integrity by working to eliminate redundancy
  • Research and enable processing of structured and unstructured data to derive patterns, trends, and correlations and to enable entity extraction, disambiguation, common operating picture solutions, visualization, and other data-related support.
  • Implements improvements to data entity extraction, entity resolution, pattern extraction, link analysis, human and social-network links/connections, cloud online analytical processing, data frameworks, visualization support, and related algorithms.
  • Creates, modifies, and maintains software capabilities that extract insight from data, to include information, software applications, machine learning models, automation, and other software components.
  • Stays informed of the ways the organization uses its data and recommends emerging techniques and technologies to enhance data use.
Required Experience:
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Public Trust with the US federal government
  • Experience in data related roles
Preferred Experience:
  • Recent experience with CDC environment and standards: SDLC, technical architecture, release processes
  • Knowledge of public health data and related privacy requirements (HIPPA, PII, etc.)
  • Experience with cloud-hosted data tools and repositories
Education & Training:
  • Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Public Health, or related field
Work Authorization, Clearance Requirement, & Additional Information:
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government Public Trust clearance. Due to contract requirements, candidates must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents (green card holders) to be eligible.

Salary Range:
  • $39/hour - $52/hour
  • Salary commensurate with experience.
