What is a union data analyst?

Union Data Analysts are professionals who collect, process, and analyze data relevant to labor unions. They help unions understand workforce trends, membership demographics, collective bargaining outcomes, and other key metrics. Their work supports decision-making during negotiations, strategic planning, and advocacy efforts. By translating complex data into actionable insights, they play a critical role in advancing the goals of labor organizations.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a union data analyst?

To thrive as a Union Data Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, proficiency in data interpretation, and a background in statistics or a related field, often supported by a bachelor's degree. Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, or statistical software, as well as experience with labor relations databases, is typically required. Exceptional attention to detail, strong communication abilities, and collaborative skills help you convey complex findings and work effectively with union leaders and stakeholders. These competencies are crucial for providing actionable insights that support negotiations, policy decisions, and member representation.

How does a union data analyst collaborate with union leadership and members to support organizational goals?

Union Data Analysts often work closely with union leadership, organizers, and sometimes directly with union members to gather, interpret, and present data that informs decision-making. They may analyze membership trends, wage data, or workplace issues and communicate findings in clear, actionable reports or presentations. Regular collaboration ensures data-driven strategies support collective bargaining, organize campaigns, and address member concerns effectively. This partnership helps align analytical work with the union’s advocacy and operational priorities.

Job description

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking a Data Analyst in Sandy Springs, GA.
Summary:
Our team is seeking a Data Analyst to lead the modernization of the group's legacy reporting landscape onto the Microsoft Power Platform. This role serves as a senior individual contributor responsible for migrating existing WebFocus reporting offerings - including Report Caster jobs and self-service portals - into modern Power BI and Power Apps-based dashboards, portals, and automated solutions, applying modernization techniques wherever they add value.
Beyond migration, this role helps advance the group's growing investment in AI-based and conversational analytics. As the team expands into platforms such as Snowflake and Databricks, the Consultant will help shape scalable, reusable, and well-governed reporting and automation solutions built on the Power Platform. The individual will also serve as an informal technical resource for colleagues, helping troubleshoot Power Platform and related questions, and supporting learning across the team.
Key Responsibilities:
* Execute the migration of existing WebFocus reporting offerings - including Report Caster jobs and self-service portals - to Power BI and Power Apps-based dashboards, portals, and reporting solutions
* Design and build scalable Power BI solutions, including semantic models, DAX measures, and paginated reports, that replace and enhance legacy reporting capabilities
* Develop Power Apps-based portals and applications that modernize self-service reporting and data-access experiences
* Apply modernization techniques - reusable templates, standardized data models, and automation - wherever they improve efficiency, consistency, and maintainability
* Connect to and integrate data from Oracle and SQL Server sources, ensuring accuracy, performance, and reliability of migrated solutions
REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's degree
* Typically, more than eight years of applicable experience
* Demonstrated hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI (including DAX, semantic models, and paginated reports) and Power Apps
* Strong working experience with Oracle and SQL Server, including writing and optimizing SQL
Preferred Skills/Experience:
* Experience migrating or modernizing legacy reporting platforms (e.g., WebFocus, Report Caster, or similar) to modern BI and low-code solutions
* Experience designing and building Power Automate flows and broader Power Platform-based automations
* Exposure hands-on experience with AI-based and conversational analytics solutions, including Microsoft Copilot studio, Snowflake and/or Databricks
* Significant hands-on experience designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining reporting and automation solutions in Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate
* Experience building or supporting Power Platform solutions in enterprise environments, including requirements of intake, solution design, testing, deployment, documentation, and ongoing enhancement
* Strong critical thinking, analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills with proven ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously
* Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills
* Proven ability to prioritize work based on changing organizational goals and to work independently with minimal guidance
* Ability to support peer learning, explain technical concepts clearly, and serve as an approachable resource for Power Platform questions
