JOB SUMMARY:

The Grounds Maintenance I position is responsible for performing routine grounds maintenance and landscaping tasks at A-dec property and surrounding campus locations, ensuring all areas remain clean, safe, and visually appealing. This entry-level role provides hands-on experience in groundskeeping, assisting with tasks such as lawn care, irrigation support, and light building maintenance. The role also involves operating groundskeeping equipment, ensuring adherence to safety regulations, and helping maintain a high standard of campus appearance.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains A-dec and surrounding campus landscaping, including mowing, edging, trimming, watering, weeding, and debris removal to ensure a neat, safe, and visually appealing environment.
  • Prunes, fertilizes, and plants flowers, shrubs, and trees to promote healthy growth and support seasonal landscaping needs. Participates in the safe and proper application of pesticides and fertilizers, adhering to all environmental and safety standards.
  • Ensures outdoor areas are clean and safe by regularly picking up litter, clearing debris, and maintaining walkways, parking lots, and landscaped areas to a high standard of appearance.
  • Assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems, including pipe installation, valve/controller setup, system testing, and preventative maintenance. Performs monthly stormwater inspections to ensure environmental compliance.
  • Safely operates and maintains a variety of groundskeeping equipment and tools, including tractors, mowers, turf vacuums, and company vehicles, following all safety guidelines and traffic laws.
  • Supports facilities upkeep by performing basic building maintenance tasks such as painting, light carpentry, and minor repairs. Remains vigilant in identifying and reporting potential safety hazards.
  • Works both independently and as part of a team to complete assigned tasks and special projects. Communicates regularly with Supervisors and Unit Specialists regarding task progress, supply needs, and any emerging issues.
  • Assists with the setup and takedown of company events, ensuring the grounds are properly prepared and restored for various corporate functions and gatherings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of routine landscaping practices, including mowing, trimming, pruning, fertilizing, watering, and the proper handling and application of pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Working knowledge of irrigation systems, including installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • General knowledge of landscape safety standards and the use of appropriate protective equipment.
  • Able to safely operate and perform basic maintenance on a variety of groundskeeping equipment, such as tractors, mowers, power washers, and turf vacuums.
  • Basic knowledge of small equipment maintenance and general building repairs.
  • Able to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Able to follow directions, work independently, and complete assignments accurately and on time.

Education and Experience

  • Must have and maintain a PIT certification within 6 months of entering the position.
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license with farm endorsement or the ability to obtain it; must maintain an insurable driving record.
  • Medic First Aid card (required within one year of employment).
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • One year of ground maintenance, landscaping, or related experience is preferred.
