Job description

Local News Associate Producer (Entry Level)

WLKY, the CBS affiliate in Louisville, KY has an opening for an Associate News Producer. You will assist producers in all aspects of producing a newscast, while training to become a newscast producer and our main fill-in producer. This will include building rundowns, writing stories, creating graphics, researching information, and helping with digital content production. Associate Producers also learn to work the assignment desk, helping to gather information about stories.   This is a wonderful opportunity if you are looking to get your foot in the door and get started in a career in journalism. Must be willing to work overnights and weekends. 

Responsibilities

  • Write copy for daily newscasts while learning to produce newscasts independently
  • Assist producers and reporters with research
  • Collaborate with assignment editors, producers, reporters, photographers, editors, production staff and news managers
  • Understand social media and be able to produce content on our digital platforms
  • Research and write stories for television and digital platforms
  • Make follow up calls and beat calls

Requirements

  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work on deadline pressure
  • Familiarity with social media
  • Related military experience will be considered
