The Donor Relations team at the University of Utah is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented student employee to support day-to-day operations while gaining meaningful experience in donor relations, stewardship, communications, events, and advancement operations.
This role is intentionally designed as a developmental, multi-semester learning experience. Students begin by building a strong foundation in donor relations operations and can explore or specialize in areas such as stewardship, events, communications, operations, or gift agreements over time-depending on interest, strengths, and team needs.
Students in this position will also benefit from direct exposure to senior leadership, including working alongside the Chief Donor Relations Officer and collaborating with teams across University Advancement. High-performing students may earn strong letters of recommendation from senior leaders, including the Chief Donor Relations Officer and the Vice President of Advancement, providing a meaningful career boost. This role offers valuable networking opportunities within a large, professional advancement division and helps students build connections that can support future internships, career paths, or graduate school applications.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will vary based on team needs and student interest. Areas of work may include:
General Operations

  • Assist with data entry, template updates, and documentation maintenance
  • Support updates to the team knowledge base in Asana, Box, or other platforms
  • Learn and follow confidentiality, professionalism, and data-handling standards
  • Participate in onboarding, training, and team-wide meetings

Stewardship

  • Assist with card, gift, and recognition item assembly (holidays, milestones, birthdays)
  • Maintain inventory of stewardship materials, supplies, and branded items
  • Support stewardship data entry, acknowledgements, and Giving Day activities

Events

  • Shadow event preparation, planning meetings, and production workflows
  • Support event logistics: setup, materials, check-in, and follow-up tasks

Communications

  • Proofread communications for clarity, tone, and brand alignment
  • Draft short articles, blurbs, or updates for internal use
  • Format documents, presentations, or simple web forms

Gift Agreements & Compliance

  • Assist with documentation workflows
  • Organize and update digital gift agreement files
  • Gain exposure to compliance processes and donor intent stewardship
Minimum Qualifications
