DevOps Engineer

Location: Chantilly VA

We are looking for a DevOps Engineer with experience in building, delivering, and maintaining high-performing, scalable, enterprise-grade applications. You will be part of a talented software team that works on mission-critical applications. DevOps engineer roles and responsibilities include providing expertise in the full system development lifecycle, from concept and design to testing, delivery, and sustainment. DevOps developer responsibilities include working with software developers and site reliability engineers to design, develop and deliver high-volume, low-latency applications and infrastructure for mission-critical systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Define site objectives by analyzing user requirements; envisioning system features and functionality.
  • Develop infrastructure as code, container orchestration, or other cloud-native solutions to quickly deliver scalable applications and systems.
  • Develop system health monitoring, establish system performance baselines, and conduct system performance tests. Work with site reliability engineers to ensure the continuous delivery of services within organizationally defined service level objectives and agreements.
  • Recommend system solutions by comparing advantages and disadvantages of custom development and purchase alternatives.
  • Integrate applications by designing database architecture and server scripting; studying and establishing connectivity with network systems, search engines, and information servers.
  • Develop and maintain continuous integration/continuous delivery pipelines to test and deliver software systems through development, testing, and production. Work with software developers to ensure software components are built correctly, securely, and are tested before delivery.
  • Troubleshoot development and production problems across multiple environments and operating platforms.
  • Support continuous improvement by investigating alternatives and technologies and presenting these for architectural review.
  • Support users by developing documentation and assistance tools.
  • Update job knowledge by researching new internet/intranet technologies and software products; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; and participating in professional organizations.
  • Enhance organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Experience and technologies:

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or Ansible
  • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle
  • Experience with no-SQL databases such as Elasticsearch or DynamoDB
  • Experience with tools including git (preferably GitHub), CI/CD (preferably Jenkins), artifact management (preferably Nexus), ticketing (preferably Jira), and knowledge management (preferably Confluence)
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience delivering and maintaining complex applications in languages such as Java, Python, Ruby, or JavaScript
  • Experience delivering and maintaining front-end web applications using modern JavaScript frameworks such as Angular, React, or Vue
  • Experience developing on, and for, Linux-based systems (preferably RedHat-based)
  • Experience developing in an Agile environment

Clearance: Active security clearance with full scope polygraph is required

Pager/On-call: Pager rotation may be required
