Job description

Stimson Lumber is seeking an entrylevel Silviculture Forester Assistant to join our Western Operations team in Tillamook, Oregon. This role supports reforestation and forest stewardship efforts across our timberlands and is ideal for someone starting their forestry career who is eager to learn, grow, and gain handson field experience.

This is a fulltime, salaried position with a Monday–Friday schedule. Saturday Work may be required on a very limited and infrequent basis.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you’ll work closely with experienced forestry professionals and assist with a variety of silviculture activities, including:

  • Supporting reforestation, site preparation, vegetation management, and young stand care
  • Helping prepare plans and permits for forestry activities
  • Assisting with contractor oversight to ensure work meets company standards and safety requirements
  • Measuring plantation survival and helping maintain young stand inventories
  • Collecting field data and assisting with treatment prescriptions
  • Participating in forest protection, fire prevention, and silviculture teams
  • Supporting equipment and supply maintenance
  • Working collaboratively with other departments as needed
  • Learning and applying state and federal forest practice rules
  • Supporting sustainable forestry initiatives and audit activities
  • Promoting a strong safetyfirst culture
What We’re Looking ForThis position is wellsuited for an earlycareer forestry professional who is motivated, dependable, and eager to learn.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Forest Management, Forest Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent education/experience)
  • Basic understanding of western forest species and silvicultural practices
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Word and Excel; GIS experience is a plus
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating as part of a team
  • Ability to perform physical fieldwork, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to operate a manual transmission is helpful
  • Ability to obtain a Private Pesticide Applicator License within one year (company support provided)
