Hidden Hollow Farm — Washington, New Jersey
$30/hour | Part-Time | Prior Experience Required

Hidden Hollow Farm is seeking an experienced, dependable part-time Skilled Farmhand / Farm Operations Assistant to support the daily operations and ongoing development of a private agricultural operation in Washington, New Jersey.

Hidden Hollow Farm is focused on registered Red Angus seedstock, an emerging dairy genetics program, land stewardship, conservation, forestry management, pasture improvement, and the long-term care of the farm’s livestock, land, buildings, equipment, and natural resources.

This is a hands-on position for someone with real prior experience in farm work, equipment operation, livestock care, forestry, land management, maintenance, or a similar field. This is not an entry-level role.

Responsibilities

The position may include a wide range of farm and property-related tasks, including:

Livestock & Daily Farm Operations

  • Assist with the care and observation of beef and dairy cattle
  • Help with feeding, bedding, watering, minerals, and general livestock husbandry
  • Assist with cattle handling, sorting, moving, loading, and facility cleanup
  • Support pasture management, fencing, gates, water systems, and livestock areas
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment around barns, equipment, and livestock facilities
  • Assist with seasonal projects such as calving, breeding, weaning, sale preparation, and veterinary work as needed

Equipment Operation & Maintenance

  • Safely operate tractors, skid steer, UTVs, trailers, and farm implements
  • Assist with mowing, brush management, material handling, grading, fieldwork, and general property maintenance
  • Perform basic equipment upkeep, including fueling, greasing, cleaning, inspections, and routine maintenance
  • Identify and report equipment issues, leaks, damage, or safety concerns
  • Maintain tools, machinery, vehicles, and work areas in an organized and responsible manner

Land Stewardship, Forestry & Conservation Work

  • Assist with forestry management, woodland cleanup, storm cleanup, and invasive species removal
  • Safely use chainsaws and related tools for brush clearing, tree cleanup, firewood processing, and fence-line maintenance
  • Help maintain trails, roads, drainage areas, pasture edges, woodlots, and conservation areas
  • Support habitat improvement, pasture restoration, vegetation management, and other land stewardship projects
  • Assist with projects related to long-term soil, water, pasture, woodland, and wildlife habitat improvement

Farm Maintenance & Infrastructure

  • Assist with fencing, gates, barns, roads, drainage, water systems, livestock facilities, and general farm repairs
  • Help with light construction, cleanup, landscaping, stone work, material handling, and seasonal improvement projects
  • Support the Farm Manager with contractors, deliveries, supplies, and project preparation as needed
  • Help identify maintenance issues before they become larger problems

Required Qualifications

All candidates must have prior hands-on experience in at least one or more of the following areas:

  • Farm work
  • Livestock handling
  • Tractor operation
  • Skid steer operation
  • Chainsaw use
  • Forestry or land management
  • Equipment maintenance
  • Fencing and farm repairs
  • Hay, pasture, or field work
  • Construction, landscaping, excavation, or property maintenance

Candidates must also:

  • Be dependable, punctual, and self-motivated
  • Be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Be physically capable of lifting, bending, walking uneven ground, and performing manual labor
  • Be able to work safely around livestock, machinery, tools, and equipment
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Follow directions carefully and work independently when needed
  • Respect the privacy and discretion required on a private farm
  • Take pride in doing work properly and maintaining a high standard

Preferred but not required:

  • Trailer hauling or equipment hauling experience
  • NJ pesticide license or willingness to obtain one

Schedule

This is a part-time position. Hours will depend on farm needs, season, weather, and project workload. Some weekend or holiday livestock care may be required.

Pay

$30/hour, based on experience and ability.
