Overview
The Entry Level Environmental Scientist provides technical support for environmental consulting projects involving site investigations, regulatory compliance, environmental monitoring, remediation, permitting, and natural resource assessments.
This position includes a combination of fieldwork and office-based responsibilities and offers opportunities for professional growth through hands-on project experience, training, and mentorship.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct environmental site assessments, inspections, and field investigations.
  • Perform soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil gas, and air sampling activities.
  • Assist with monitoring well installation, development, gauging, and sampling.
  • Collect environmental data in accordance with project work plans and regulatory requirements.
  • Operate and maintain field equipment including GPS units, water quality meters, PID instruments, and sampling pumps.
  • Document field activities through detailed field notes, photographs, and daily reports.
  • Coordinate with drilling contractors, laboratories, and subcontractors during field activities.
  • Support construction oversight, remediation projects, and environmental compliance inspections.
  • Assist with stormwater inspections, erosion and sediment control inspections, and permit compliance monitoring.
  • Adhere to company health and safety procedures and maintain required safety certifications.
  • Travel to project sites as required, including occasional overnight travel.

Office Responsibilities
  • Prepare technical reports, tables, figures, maps, and data summaries.
  • Review laboratory analytical data and perform quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) evaluations.
  • Assist with environmental permit applications, regulatory reporting, and compliance documentation.
  • Support Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs).
  • Perform environmental data management and maintain project records.
  • Conduct regulatory and technical research related to environmental regulations and site conditions.
  • Assist with preparation of proposals, cost estimates, and project work plans.
  • Utilize GIS, CAD, and Microsoft Office software to develop project deliverables.
  • Coordinate with project managers and senior staff to meet project schedules and client objectives.
  • Participate in internal training and professional development activities.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Natural Resources, or a related scientific field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check, physical and motor vehicle records check.

Preferred
  • Previous internship or environmental field experience.
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience with GIS software.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and sampling methodologies.
  • Erosion and Sediment Control, Stormwater, or related environmental certifications.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk on uneven terrain and active construction sites.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during field activities.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and respiratory protection when required.
  • Ability to perform field work in various weather conditions.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
