WestLand is adding a full-time Field Botanist to our Reno team! The Field Botanist conducts botanical field surveys, monitors environmental compliance, and assists in the preparation of technical reports for projects in the West region. Responsibilities include plant species identification, vegetation mapping, habitat assessment, and ensuring adherence to environmental regulations and permit requirements. This role requires strong knowledge of Great Basin and Mojave flora, field survey techniques, and applicable environmental regulations. Knowledge of Sierra Nevada flora is a plus.

What will I be doing?

  • Conduct botanical field surveys and vegetation mapping for project sites.
  • Identify and document plant species in the field, including sensitive and protected species.
  • Monitor construction sites for compliance with botanical and environmental permit conditions.
  • Assess habitats for suitability for protected plant species and prepare habitat evaluation reports.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports, permit applications, and environmental documentation.
  • Collect, record, and manage botanical data using GPS and other field data collection tools.
  • Coordinate with project managers, regulatory agencies, and clients regarding botanical survey requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies during field activities.
  • Maintain organized and accurate field notes and project records.
  • Assist in public meetings and outreach related to botanical resources as needed.

What qualifications are required for this role?

  • Bachelor's degree in Botany, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in botanical field surveys preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of local flora and plant identification techniques.
  • Experience conducting botanical surveys and vegetation mapping.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and GPS data collection tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in remote outdoor environments for extended periods.

The wage range for this position is $26.00 - $34.00 /hour.
