Position Description & Qualifications
Looking for an Entry Level Engineering Technician opportunity at a place you can make a difference every day? Discover this great opportunity in our Ludlow, MA location.
As an Entry-Level Engineering Technician in Ludlow, MA, you will join our engineering support team where you will perform a range of advanced technical tasks involving the construction, testing, inspection, troubleshooting, and modification of mechanical and electrical systems. Bring your expertise and collaborative skills to make an impact towards our military defense by discovering your new role supporting this critical mission.
Serco provides satellite communications (SATCOM), radar modernization, operations and maintenance, and sustainment services that enable customers to extend the lives of existing systems and achieve phased upgrades with new technology to enhance operational capability. Serco specializes in areas including obsolescence engineering, systems engineering services, test equipment design and build, and field engineering services, and maintains a near-field and compact antenna test range at Ludlow.
In this role, you will:
  • Perform Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) testing and Antenna Range Testing in accordance with defined procedures.
  • Construct components, subunits, subassemblies, and simple models based on engineering layouts and diagrams.
  • Adapt and modify standard equipment to meet test or operational needs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions independently.
  • Receive initial instruction and guidance from engineers or senior technicians, then perform recurring work with minimal oversight.
  • Select, set up, and operate standard test equipment; make minor adjustments to test setups and procedures as needed.
  • Record, compile, and process test data; identify errors or inconsistencies and present results clearly.
  • Assist in design modifications by compiling and analyzing data related to materials, specifications, and previous equipment performance.
  • Apply and handle various chemicals per manufacturer or internal guidelines for coatings or other processes.
  • Observe and apply industry best practices related to FOD control, ESD material handling, and PPE compliance.
  • Follow and contribute to improvements in production processes and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform mechanical and electrical inspections, including First Article Inspections and final evaluations.
  • Use judgment and initiative to identify gaps or inconsistencies in data and collaborate with engineers or senior technicians to resolve issues.
  • Maintain work schedules and deadlines; anticipate and plan for potential delays or changes in project scope.
  • Exhibit strong fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination to perform delicate assembly and inspection tasks.
  • Perform general housekeeping and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
  • Complete all required safety, technical, and compliance training.
  • Select or adapt standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Active Secret Clearance
  • US Citizenship
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
    • Higher Level Education such as a Bachelor's degree will be considered in lieu of experience.
  • 1 year of related/similar technical experience.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical assemblies and mechanical aptitude.
  • Foundational knowledge of electrical circuits and connections.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and DoD-style diagrams.
  • Ability to follow directions and performing basic tasks with attention to detail.
  • Familiarity of chemical adhesives and paints and willing to learn it further.
  • Familiarity with electrical diagrams and basic troubleshooting techniques.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to be a hands-on learner with a consistent drive to improve and develop.
  • Basic understanding of computer operations and software tools.
  • Ability to be a team player with a positive attitude and adaptability.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work toward project goals, and calculate adjustments or alternatives as needed.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to comply with PPE, FOD, and ESD safety standards.
  • Ability to complete tasks requiring fine motor skills and dexterity.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Ability to sit and stand for exteneded periods of time.
  • Ability to enter confined spaces.
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time.
