What is a ferry engineer?

A Ferry Engineer is responsible for maintaining and operating the mechanical and electrical systems aboard a ferry. A Ferry Engineer’s daily responsibilities include monitoring and maintaining the vessel’s engines, electrical systems, and auxiliary machinery to ensure smooth operation. This often involves conducting routine inspections, performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting technical issues, and responding quickly to any onboard mechanical problems. Ferry Engineers also keep detailed records of maintenance activities, work closely with the Captain and crew, and help implement safety procedures. Collaboration and fast decision-making are common, as unexpected situations may arise while at sea. The work environment can be dynamic and requires adaptability to changing schedules and weather conditions.
