What are we looking for?

The Solar (PV) Engineer is responsible for providing engineering expertise to evaluate conformance of inverters, energy storage systems, solar / photovoltaic panels, solar racking and tracking systems to industry standards, creating evaluation reports and test plans, conducting and/or witnessing testing, resolving technical and/or administrative issues and providing Intertek customers with superior customer service. Ability to travel up to 25%. 

Salary & Benefits Information

The base wage or salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

What you'll do:

  • Conduct evaluations of equipment as required, to determine compliance with applicable standard(s).
  • Plan, coordinate and execute project work and keep the client informed.
  • Read and understand schematics and manufacturing instructions.
  • Validate the project scope and sample applicability.
  • Identify and locate test instruments and equipment required for testing within the scope of the project.
  • Set up and operate equipment under test (EUT).
  • Perform testing of products in accordance with standards. Core tests include, but are not limited to: rating, leakage current, dielectric, temperature, pressure, stability, mechanical hazard, flammability, abnormal and fault insurance, rain, etc.
  • Perform utility interactive testing such as: response to abnormal voltage, response to abnormal frequency, unintentional islanding, harmonic distortion, interconnection integrity, etc.
  • Set up and operate standard test equipment including, but not limited to: power analyzer, oscilloscope, load banks, EMI equipment, thermocouples and data loggers, multi-meter, dielectric strength tester, ground continuity tester, digital multimeter, surge generator, over-voltage tester, environmental condition chamber, and articulated probes. Use hand tools to build/calibrate test fixtures.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • No experience required - recent college grads considered
  • Must be detailed-oriented and able to effectively prioritize and organize workload, with efficient time management

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to make technical decisions and engineering judgments independently within established parameters
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively in both verbal and written format
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
  • Physical dexterity to perform the clerical and technical functions which are inherent to the position
  • Physical dexterity to operate equipment and perform other functions necessary to effectively and efficiently perform the duties of the job.  This may include bending/stooping, turning/twisting, reaching, balancing, and mobility to travel to other work sites.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Model Intertek's 10X Energies at all times within the work place, practicing business the right way

  • Valid unrestricted driver's license and reliable driving record
  • Ability to travel as business needs dictate, up to 25%

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Engineering Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, power systems, renewables or similar 

  • 1+ years directly related experience
  • Prior project management experience
  • Prior experience with U.S., Canadian, and other international product safety standards, i.e., ANSI, CSA, UL, EN, IEC
  • Experience with inverter, PV and other energy equipment standards such as UL 2703, UL 61730, UL 61215, UL 1741, UL 9540, UL 2200, IEEE 1547, IEC 62109, etc.
