Job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Works closely with Analytical Specialist and Lead Tech 1 to assist with or perform the following duties:

  • Provide vacation relief as needed for 12 hour shift technicians
  • Check and change out gas cylinders
  • Manage all sample retains and storage facility
  • Perform process water analysis
  • Maintain chemicals and reagents for process water analysis
  • Deliver/Pickup shipments to/from the warehouse
  • Collect samples from the field and sample stations
  • Clean glassware and testing areas
  • Maintains coating and ALDOT samples
  • Assist with special projects as directed
  • Run routine analyses such as-rotational viscosity, FSII, gravity, conductivity 
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

Requires a 2 or 4 year college degree with a chemistry/science background and 2-3 years of laboratory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

Must have a valid driver's license.  Must successfully complete a six-month probationary period and must successfully pass the Lab Entry Level 2 job knowledge audit within 6 months of employment.  Must seek training opportunities in order to promote as detailed in the Lab Progression Plan.  Demonstrates acceptable level of knowledge of refinery and lab safety procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Must be able to lift 50 pounds maximum infrequently, lift and carry up to 30 pounds frequently.  Requires reaching, handling, fingering and feeling.  Must be able to climb ladders to work at heights up to and including 10 feet above the ground infrequently.  Must be able to stoop, kneel, and/or crouch on an infrequent basis. Walks and stands on tile floors for the majority of the work day. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  Works primarily in an environmentally controlled building (laboratory) in fluorescent lighting.  Must go outside infrequently to perform routine maintenance.  Handles toxic and hazardous materials and chemicals frequently wearing personal protective equipment and working with or around vent hoods.  Operates delicate electronic equipment frequently.  Primarily works day shift (Mon.-Fri.), but could be required to work on shift as needed.
