Job description

Relief Urgent Care Veterinarian – Laredo, TX (Flexible Scheduling + $190/hr)

This role is perfect for veterinarians who enjoy fast-paced, problem-focused medicine without the intensity of full ER work — and who value flexibility, autonomy, and predictable daytime hours.

Whether you are looking for one shift a month or a full schedule, you choose the shifts that fit your availability and lifestyle. Relief work should relieve stress — not add to it — and we structure our relief roles so you can focus on practicing great medicine in a supportive, well organized environment.

Why Relief Veterinarians Love VMR

  • $175/hr

  • Choose your own schedule

  • Work one shift a month or build a full schedule

  • Travel reimbursement included

  • Family-owned by veterinary professionals

  • Your treated with respect—not like a number

  • Direct access to our team—no call centers

  • We advocate for our contractors

  • Supportive urgent care team and effcient workflow

Your Role

As a Relief Urgent Care Veterinarian, you will manage same-day, non-life-threatening cases that require prompt attention. You’ll work independently with technician support and collaborate with the clinic team to ensure excellent patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform focused urgent care examinations and diagnostics

  • Treat common urgent conditions (GI upset, minor wounds, ear infections, lameness, skin issues, etc.)

  • Provide preventive care and client education when appropriate

  • Utilize digital radiography, dental radiography, ultrasound, and in-house lab equipment

  • Administer anesthesia and perform soft tissue surgeries (optional if preferred)

  • Stabilize urgent cases and refer true emergencies when needed

  • Communicate clearly with clients regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up care

  • Document patient care accurately and efficiently

Scheduling

Shifts available Monday through Saturday, with consistent urgent care hours:

  • 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Whether you prefer occasional relief work or a consistent weekly schedule, you choose the shift that fits your availability and lifestyle.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) with active veterinary license

  • Experience in small animal urgent care or general practice

  • Proficiency in radiography, ultrasound, anesthesia, and soft tissue surgery

  • Strong communication and client interaction skills

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced clinical environment

Whether you're looking to supplement your current schedule or build a full-time relief career, we'd love to welcome you to the VMR team.
