Job description

Job Summary:

Works in collaboration with other departments to accurately and efficiently provide charge entry, audit, analytic and support services throughout the hospital; with the goal of ensuring accurate data capture.

Reports to: Business Office Manager

Hourly range: $20.99 - $32.64 (posted hourly range excludes overtime and bonuses which are not guaranteed)

Essential Job Functions:

  • Accurately enters/audits daily patient charges and ensures charges post to the patient billing system. Charges may include but are not limited to: Perioperative Services, Surgical Services, Anesthesia, Emergency Services, In-Patient and Ancillary Services.
  • Proofs, corrects, verifies and performs accuracy audits on charges related, but not limited to, Blood Utilization, Laboratory, Implants and Ancillary Services.
  • Completes chart audits to ensure accurate correlation between patient charges and clinical documentation.
  • Compiles statistical data in preferred format for data entry and/or for preparation of management reports.

Additional Duties:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates the spirit of the philosophy, mission, and values of the hospital through words and actions and implements them into departmental processes, programs, and the working environment.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: High School Diploma or the equivalent

Certification, Licensure:  None required

Experience, Training, Knowledge:

  • 2 years’ clerical experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Experience with Cerner preferred.
  • Experience with medical charge entry.
  • Experience with medical billing/coding.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at desk and working on a computer.

Working Conditions/Environmental Exposures:

Environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps, blood, body fluids, various infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation, and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste, proximity to moving mechanical parts. Protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.

ASH IMMUNIZATIONS AND VACCINATIONS REQUIREMENTS – Aligns with CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) for Healthcare Personnel 

  • Hepatitis B- Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Hepatitis B or three doses Hep B vaccine at appropriate intervals
  • Influenza- documentation of current seasonal flu vaccine (mandatory from November 1st through March 31st each year)
  • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella or 2 doses of MMR Vaccination
  • Varicella (chickenpox) - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Varicella or 2 doses of Varicella Vaccine
  • Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) - documented proof of immunization
  • Tuberculosis Screening - Documentation of a two-step TB skin test within the past year OR lab verification of a negative TB Gold or T-Spot tuberculin test within the past 6 months
