Your role and responsibilities
As an Associate Data Engineer at IBM, you'll help organizations transform data into actionable insights that improve decision-making, accelerate innovation, and solve complex business challenges.
As part of our Data Services practice, you'll support the design, integration, movement, and management of data across enterprise environments. No two projects are exactly alike-you could support healthcare, financial services, public sector, federal sector, automotive, energy, retail, industrial, or manufacturing clients.
Work alongside experienced consultants, data engineers, cloud specialists, and business professionals to help clients modernize their data ecosystems. Through mentorship, certifications, structured learning, and real client project experience, you'll develop the technical and consulting skills needed to grow your career in data engineering.

Required education
Bachelor's Degree
Required technical and professional expertise
  • Currently completing or recently completed a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Analytics, or a related field.
  • Foundational knowledge of Python, SQL, Java, or other programming languages used for data engineering and analytics.
  • Foundational understanding of databases, data structures, data processing, and analytics concepts with the ability to solve data-driven business problems.
  • Exposure to data engineering, ETL/ELT, reporting, cloud technologies, or data projects through coursework, internships, research, hackathons, or personal learning.
  • Understanding of cloud computing concepts and modern data architectures.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings and data-driven insights to both technical and business audiences.
  • Demonstrated application of programming, data, or analytical skills through coursework, projects, research, internships, hackathons, or personal learning.

Preferred technical and professional experience
  • Exposure to data engineering, cloud-based data solutions, analytics, or large-scale data management projects.
