GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the application development manager, this position performs complex (journey-level) computer systems analysis work including interacting closely with project management and customers to develop requirements, design, build and maintain custom reporting. The focus for this position will be on development of reports, views, and dashboards in a Power BI environment. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.  Performs additional duties as assigned.  Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Sixty semester hours from an accredited college or university.

Experience:

Three years full-time experience in a BI report development role.

At least one year of hands-on experience developing interactive reports and dashboards specifically within Microsoft Power BI.

NOTE: Experience may have occurred concurrently.

Licensure:

Applicant must possess a valid class "C" Texas driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:      

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's  degree or higher in Computer Science or Data Science. 

Experience:    

Two years experience performing Power BI report building from a Texas government agency.

Experience in the Microsoft Power BI platform, including Power BI Service, Power BI Report Builder, and Power BI desktop;

Experience integrating Power BI reports into custom-built web applications with Oracle databases and Dataverse as the data sources;

Experience with paginated reports in producing government issued precise placement documents, such as titles, licenses, certificates, etc.;

Experience in related Microsoft apps such as Power Apps, Power Automate, RPA, and Power Pages;

Experience with Oracle, SQL, the Dataverse, data warehousing, and ETL processes;

Licensure: 

Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate certification (PL-300).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of designing and implementing reports with Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, and Power BI Report Builder;

Knowledge of the various Power BI report types and has clear understanding of their use cases;

Knowledge of Power Query, M code, and DAX;

Knowledge of current technological trends in Power BI and report development;

Knowledge of functional, business and architectural aspects of Power BI components for providing solutions;

Knowledge of Power BI best practices;

Knowledge of Power BI datasets, Apps report packages, Dataflow, Datamart, deployment pipelines, and Workspaces.

Knowledge of how to connect to various data sources;

Knowledge of Agile, Iterative and Waterfall project methodologies;

Skill in the Power BI platform and its capabilities;

Skill in creating various types of Power BI paginated reports, such as precise placement fulfillment paginated reports (certificate cards, title documents, coupons, etc), table layout detail paginated reports, summary paginated reports, and receipts.

Skill in creating different paginated report implementations and printing options, such as ensuring report compatibility with non-standard print sizes and OCR font printing, and configuring print tasks to select specific paper trays for output; producing PDF and Excel files for output.

Skill in integrating Power BI reports into custom-built web applications with both Oracle databases and the Dataverse as data sources;

Skill in creating and publishing visually appealing Power BI interactive reports, mobile reports, and dashboards;

Skill in developing ad hoc reports with variable selection criteria and visualizations, such as slicers, charts, graphs, maps, tables, etc.;

Skill in designing and developing data models, and optimizing data models for faster query performance;

Skill in data transformation, data cleanup, data consolidation, etc. using Power Query;

Skill in advanced data transformation tasks using M code;

Skill in creating custom calculations and measures using DAX;

Skill in connecting to a variety of data sources using connectors and creating custom connectors;

Skill in managing data refresh schedules to ensure up-to-date information;

Skill in managing permissions to reports, row level security, and sharing reports with stakeholders;

Skill in using pipelines and version control;

Skill in troubleshooting production issues;

Skill in using MS Excel, Word and Outlook;

Skill in effective verbal and written communication with both technical and non-technical audiences;
