R&D Lab Assistant
Join our R&D team as a Part Time Lab Assistant, where you'll get hands-on experience in lubricant testing, help keep our lab running smoothly, and work alongside experienced technicians to support innovation, safety, and quality every day!

Wixom, Michigan
Purpose Of This Position
This position will be responsible for performing lubricant test procedures and reporting the results under the guidance of a senior technician. This will include keeping the laboratory neat, clean and organized.
Key Responsibilities
  • Understand the use, handling, and disposal of hazardous chemicals before conducting lab testing.
  • Running the dishwasher
  • Replenishing laboratory and blending supplies
  • Helping to maintain chemical inventory
  • Support monthly and weekly safety checks
  • Carry out end of month responsibilities (dumping, refilling chemicals, support inventory)
  • Entering test data and scanning test sheets, COA(s), SDS(s), misc. documents
  • Wiping down counter tops, cleaning test equipment, and keeping the lab tidy
  • Preparing supplies, equipment, and glassware for testing
  • Unpacking and labelling chemicals in accordance with laboratory protocol
  • General office tasks - laminating, collecting packages, getting office supplies
  • Performing basic lubricant testing under the supervision of laboratory staff members in accordance with existing test procedures
  • Blending trial products with supervision from development team
  • Read and understand the job hazard analysis and SDS (as needed) for the testing to be performed.
  • Operate in accordance with all ISO17025/IATF16949 established policies.
  • Participate in training and accurately records training dates.

What You'll Need to Succeed as a Part Time R&D Lab Assistant
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Enrolled in a bachelor's program in chemistry, engineering, or a related field, or a recent associate degree graduate
  • Years of Experience: 0 - 2 years laboratory experience (entry level)
  • Computer skills including data entry, word processing, spreadsheet creation, and modification. Familiarity with SharePoint preferred.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • Good problem-solving skills and mathematical skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work well with team members, customers, and vendors.
  • Able to work in a group setting or independently while meeting deadlines
