Job description

Academic Req: Required - High School diploma or GED Certifications: N/A
Work Experience: Preferred: (2)years related experience in the preschool classroom setting.
Critical Action Items & Measurable Deliverables:
1. Responsibility for assisting in the education and daily program of a Head Start or Early Head Start classroom.
2. Assist with implementation and coordination of all Head Start or Early Head Start functions.
3. Identifies, reports, provides supportive services in child abuse/neglect cases, notifying the Family Services Center Manager or Center Director.
4. Assist in providing educational experiences that will:
โ€ข Instill in each child a good self-image and sense of self-worth.
โ€ข Develop language art and skills for all children โ€ข Include multi-culture, folklore, etc. into the program.
5. Ensure all children receive individual attention.
6. Be in the classroom before children arrive each morning, unless designated by supervisor to another duty.
7. See that all areas are safe including:
โ€ข Classroom
โ€ข Playground
โ€ข Restrooms
โ€ข Classroom and outdoor equipment
8. Make the best use of volunteer help.
9. Assist with child assessments and screenings.
10. Assist on field trips and other school functions.
11. Assist with home-style meal service for the children.
12. Report illness or accidents to the Center Coordinator and/or Center Coordinator/Family Specialist.
13. Report student absences of three days or more to Center Coordinator and/or Center Coordinator/Family Specialist.
14. Attending workshops, conferences and all in-service trainings.
15. Maintain mandated training hours and documentation as required.
16. Assist in keeping classroom and other areas clean and neat at all times.
17. Show competency, good judgment, and self-control in working with Head Start or Early Head Start children.
18. Acquire and maintain up-to-date training/certification in CPR and First Aid.
19. Assist with daily activities including staff/child ratio, discipline and safety of all Head Start or Early Head Start children.
20. Assist with other duties as assigned by Family Services Center Manager, or Center Director.
Requirements:
1. Must be able to serve and effectively communicate, to the extent feasible, with children and families with no or limited English proficiency.
2. Working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
3. Computer literate.
4. Ability to work effectively without extensive supervision.
5. Ability to operate all office machinery.
6. Ability to function with diplomacy and tact.
7. Handle all student information with utmost confidentiality.
8. Report suspected child abuse/neglect to administrator and law enforcement agency.
9. Abide by all Innovative Network of Knowledge policies and procedures.
10. Abide by DFPS and OHS regulations and standards.
11. Ability to work as a team player.
12. Must have reliable transportation.
13. Possess a valid driver's license.
14. Complete and pass health examination.
15. Confirm work eligibility status.
16. Successfully pass driving history check
17. Clear criminal background check
18. Required to lift up to 60 pounds.
19. Required to stand, sit on the floor, bend, squat, kneel, lift children, and engage with children.
