Job description

Overview
Consider joining the Pennex family as a PEP Maintenance Technician at our Leetonia, OH location. This hybrid role combines CNC machine setup and process support with industrial maintenance. The technician will set up, troubleshoot, and optimize CNC equipment to safely produce quality parts while diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining production and facility equipment. The ideal candidate brings strong CNC setup skills plus hands-on experience with mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, welding, and control systems, including PLC troubleshooting.
This is a night shift position working 6pm-6am on rotating days and weekends.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Sets up CNC machining equipment, including tooling, fixtures and workholding, program selection, work and tool offsets, and first-piece preparation.
  • Reads blueprints, setup sheets, work instructions, and process specifications; verifies part dimensions using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection devices.
  • Troubleshoots CNC setup and process issues, including tool wear or breakage, dimensional variation, machine alarms, poor surface finish, and cycle interruptions; makes authorized adjustments to restore stable production.
  • Performs changeovers and prove-outs; partners with Production, Quality, Engineering, to resolve problems.
  • Responds to service calls from all departments involving equipment breakdowns, prioritizes repairs with input from Supervisor, and completes safe, timely repairs.
  • Diagnoses and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic systems; performs welding and fabrication as needed.
  • Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on CNC mills, saws, fabrication equipment, extrusion presses, auxiliary equipment, compressed-air and cooling-water systems, and other facility equipment.
  • Inspects CNC equipment for lubrication, coolant, guarding, chip removal, tooling and workholding condition, abnormal noise or vibration, leaks, and other safety, quality, or uptime concerns.
  • Installs or modifies equipment in cooperation with Engineering and Maintenance leadership to improve reliability, ease of operation, process capability, and safety.
  • Documents setup information, repairs, parts used, and completed tasks accurately and on time in setup records and the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Follows all company safety and work rules, maintains a neat and orderly work area, supports general housekeeping, and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; a technical certificate or associate degree in CNC machining, industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or a related field is preferred.

Experience
  • Three or more years of CNC setup, machining, or industrial maintenance experience; an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
  • Experience independently completing CNC changeovers, installing and setting tools and workholding, setting offsets, and supporting first-piece acceptance.
  • Experience reading blueprints and setup documentation, understanding basic geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and using precision measurement equipment.
  • Industrial maintenance experience with mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems is preferred.
  • PLC troubleshooting, welding and fabrication, and experience in aluminum or another high-volume manufacturing environment are preferred.

Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to safely set up CNC equipment and make tooling, workholding, program, work-offset, and tool-offset changes within established procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, setup sheets, work instructions, safety rules, operating and maintenance manuals, and electrical or maintenance diagrams.
  • Ability to use calipers, micrometers, gauges, indicators, and other precision measurement tools and to perform shop math using fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to recognize and troubleshoot dimensional, tooling, workholding, program, machine-alarm, and equipment-performance issues.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems using appropriate tools and test equipment.
  • Ability to read maintenance blueprints, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, ladder diagrams, and bills of material; familiarity with PLC and HMI troubleshooting is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and document setup, quality, repair, and CMMS information accurately.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritize multiple issues, and follow assignments through to completion.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship; regular and reliable attendance is required.
