Description
Alamance Community College is seeking a full-time, 9-month Information Technology Instructor to join the Information Technology academic department. The instructor will teach college-level IT courses and support students preparing for entry-level technical careers, continued education, and/or industry-recognized credentials.
The successful candidate will be an IT generalist with the ability to teach across multiple areas of information technology and is eager to learn about new technologies as they emerge. The department is especially interested in candidates who hold the Cisco CCNA instructor certification, are comfortable with DevOps and OS administration (WindowsTM and Linux), and embrace new technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and automation.
This position requires strong technical knowledge, clear communication, and a commitment to teaching students with varied levels of academic and technical preparation. The instructor should be able to create practical learning experiences, explain complex topics clearly, and help students develop the technical skills, professional habits, and problem-solving ability needed in the IT workplace.
Courses may include, but are not limited to, Introduction to Computers, Network and Security Foundations, Cisco CCNA-related courses, Desktop Support, Security Concepts, Linux Administration, Windows Administration, Database Concepts, Cloud Computing or emerging technology courses, and other information technology curriculum courses as assigned.
Instruction may be assigned in seated, online, hybrid, day, evening, weekend, or off-campus formats according to college and program needs. The position requires on-campus presence of a minimum of 24 hours per week across four business days.
Example of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as college needs dictate.
  1. Providing appropriate and effective instruction.
    1. Teaching classes per the College's teaching load formula in combinations including day, evening, weekend, off-campus, and online as the College requires.
    2. Providing relevant learning opportunities that promote student engagement and retention.
    3. Develop and update course materials, labs, assignments, rubrics, and instructional materials.
    4. Staying current in their field and in teaching methodology.
    5. Creating meaningful assessments and evaluating student work according to departmental standards.
    6. Incorporate emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud tools, automation, and related workplace technologies where appropriate.
    7. Maintaining accurate student records, including course attendance.
    8. Being available to students during office or lab hours for assistance.
    9. Providing regular grade updates through designated LMS gradebook.
  2. Providing accurate, informed advising.
    1. Maintaining accessible office or lab hours.
    2. Understanding College policies and procedures, degree requirements, and transfer agreements.
    3. Providing students with current information regarding career opportunities, as appropriate.
