Job description

DoWSkillbridge Police Recruit
City of Richmond Hill PD Military-to-Law Enforcement SkillBridge Academy
Richmond Hill, GA 31324
Are you a military service member with a desire for a career in Law Enforcement? The City of Richmond Hill Police Department is committed to supporting your transition to a career after the military. Joining the ranks of Georgiaโ€™s police force is a high honor and a very rewarding career!
We offer a Military to Law Enforcement training program through DoWSkillbride and provide mentoring and job placement support once you're trained. The Department of War (DoW) SkillBridge program is an opportunity for service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service after their chain of command provides written authorization and approval.
  • U.S. Military Service Members participating in DoW SkillBridge programs continue receiving their military compensation and benefits, while industry providers provide the civilian training and work experience.
  • Service members participating in a SkillBridge program are participating in a Capstone training experience at the end of the military career and are NOT eligible for wages or other benefits from industry providers since the program is supported by the Department of War, which will continue to cover the salaries and benefits of the participating service members.
The RHPD Military-to-Law Enforcement SkillBridge Program:
The City of Richmond Hill's Military-to-Law Enforcement SkillBridge Program will provide transitioning active duty service members with academic knowledge, practical skills, leadership experience, and professional competencies necessary to successfully transition to a career in law enforcement. The program will offer rigorous training that includes classroom-based lecture and practical skill building sessions. Upon successful completion of the program, SkillBridge recruits will be prepared to earn certification through the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST). The program will enable candidates to gain the required credentials and employment readiness skills for transition into local, county, state, or campus law enforcement agencies in the state of Georgia.
Training Outcome: Prepare for certification regulated by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) and prepare for employment as an entry-level law enforcement officer.
RHPD SkillBridge Training Program Duration: 19 weeks, offered once every 3 - 4 months throughout the year. Program dates will be in coordination with basic law enforcement training dates of the local Georgia Public Safety Training Center.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
โ€ข ACTIVE duty military service members MUST be eligible for the DoWSkillBridge Program and be qualified for a SkillBridge administrative leave period.
โ€ข You may be eligible to participate in the SkillBridge program if you:
+ Have 180 days of service (no less than 19 weeks) remaining prior to your date of military discharge and you have completed at least 180 continuous days of active military service.
+ Obtain approval from your unit commander.
+ Agree that participation in the DoW SkillBridge can be terminated at any time by the service if mission requirements dictate.
+ Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia.
