BE Staffing Solutions is seeking an experienced facilities professional for a Building Engineer II opportunity supporting Alexandria City Public Schools.

You do not necessarily need to currently hold the title of Building Engineer to be considered.

If you are an experienced Senior Facilities Technician, Maintenance Mechanic, Lead Maintenance Technician, HVAC/Facilities Technician, Facilities Supervisor, Assistant Chief Engineer, or other hands-on facilities professional who is ready to take the next step into building engineering, we would like to hear from you.

This is not an entry-level maintenance position. We are looking for someone who already has a strong technical foundation in commercial or institutional building maintenance and is comfortable troubleshooting building systems independently.

What You'll Be Responsible For

• Support the day-to-day operation and maintenance of school facilities and building systems.
• Troubleshoot and maintain commercial HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on building equipment.
• Work with equipment such as air handling units, rooftop units, pumps, motors, VAVs, boilers, chillers, and related HVAC/mechanical systems.
• Monitor Building Automation Systems (BAS), respond to alarms, and assist with troubleshooting building comfort and equipment issues.
• Diagnose maintenance problems and determine whether repairs can be completed internally or require a specialized contractor.
• Perform routine inspections of mechanical rooms, equipment, building interiors, and exterior areas.
• Respond to work orders, equipment failures, and facility emergencies.
• Coordinate and communicate with outside vendors and contractors when specialized repairs are required.
• Maintain accurate preventive maintenance and work-order documentation.
• Help prioritize maintenance needs and support safe, efficient building operations.
• Provide guidance and day-to-day support to maintenance and custodial personnel as needed.
• Maintain a safe environment for students, employees, and visitors.

What We're Looking For

Candidates should have several years of progressive, hands-on experience maintaining commercial, educational, healthcare, government, hospitality, or other large institutional facilities.

Strong candidates will have experience in several of the following areas:

• Commercial HVAC troubleshooting and preventive maintenance
• Air handlers, rooftop units, VAVs, pumps, motors, boilers and/or chillers
• Electrical troubleshooting and basic electrical repairs
• Commercial plumbing systems and repairs
• Building Automation Systems (BAS) or HVAC controls
• Preventive and corrective maintenance programs
• Mechanical room inspections and equipment rounds
• Work-order or CMMS systems
• Vendor and contractor coordination
• Facility inspections and emergency maintenance
• Training, mentoring, or providing direction to other maintenance personnel

Who We Especially Want to Hear From

You may be a strong fit if you are currently the person your team relies on when a difficult maintenance issue arises, you are comfortable troubleshooting HVAC, electrical and plumbing problems, and you have developed broader building systems knowledge beyond routine general maintenance.

Perhaps you are already performing many Building Engineer responsibilities but have not yet had the opportunity to move into the title.

We are interested in speaking with experienced facilities professionals who are ready for that next level of responsibility.

Certifications & Licenses

Relevant licenses and certifications are highly valued. Examples include:

• Stationary Engineer / Operating Engineer License
• NIULPE Certification
• EPA 608 / EPA Universal
• HVAC Certification
• CFC Certification
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
• BAS/Controls training or certification

Candidates with strong commercial or institutional building systems experience are encouraged to apply even if they do not currently hold every preferred license or certification.

Preferred Background

Experience maintaining any of the following environments is particularly relevant:

• K-12 schools
• Colleges or universities
• Hospitals or healthcare facilities
• Government or municipal buildings
• Commercial office buildings
• Hotels or large hospitality properties
• Large institutional campuses

Residential-only maintenance experience will generally not provide the level of commercial building systems exposure required for this position.
