Duties and Responsibilities:
Apply cutting-edge scientific knowledge and advanced experimental methodologies to develop impactful solutions for complex kidney diseases affecting both animals and humans.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a creative and forward-thinking investigator to advance both human and animal health through excellence in research and teaching. If you are exited about contributing to the education of veterinary and graduate students, mentor trainees at multiple levels, and help expand the College's national and international reputation in comparative and translational medicine. We seek a dynamic scholar whose work will build upon existing institutional strengths while opening new scientific frontiers within the College of Veterinary Medicine.
- Contributing to the development and submission of competitive extramural funding mechanisms, including NIH R01 awards, multi-investigator P01 or U-level center grants, and institutional training grants (e.g., T32) aligned with the strategic objectives of the Translational Kidney Health Center of Excellence (TKHC).
- Engaging in substantive cross-institutional collaborations with investigators at Duke University and the UNC Kidney Center to advance comparative and translational nephrology research.
- Supporting the design and execution of clinical translational trials in partnership with the Veterinary Nephrology and Urology Service, facilitating the bidirectional integration of mechanistic discovery and patient-centered investigation.
- One of the following: DVM or equivalent; MD or equivalent; PhD or equivalent
- Record of impactful record of scholarly achievement
- Demonstrated record of achievement as an independent researcher, educator, and/or clinician, with expertise in cutting-edge translational omics technologies.
- A record of collegial and productive interactions with faculty, staff and students.
- Interest and enthusiasm for training and mentorship, particularly with regard to graduate students, house officers, and/or postdoctoral fellows.
- Comfort and experience working with highly interdisciplinary and collaborative faculty with an emphasis on biomedical and translational research.
- Strong desire to establish collaborative relationships both within the university and with the private and public sectors.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience with extramurally funded research programs.
- PhD, DVM/PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree
- Expertise in omics technologies (proteomics, metabolomics, genomics, lipidomics, or systems biology)
- Experience analyzing large multi-omic datasets
- Track record or strong potential for NIH or equivalent extramural funding
- Experience collaborating across biomedical and computational disciplines
- Experience in translational biomedical research
