NeoGenomics is looking for a Bioinformatician (Operational Support) who wants to learn to continue to learn in order to allow our company to grow. This is an onsite position to work out of the laboratory in Durham, NC with a Monday - Friday, day shift.

Position Summary:
As a Bioinformatician, Operational Support, you provide essential bioinformatics support for wet-lab operations, with a primary focus on the monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of production next-generation sequencing (NGS) pipelines. You will embedded within a CAP-, CLIA-, and NY State-registered clinical laboratory and plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and regulatory compliance of genomic data workflows.
Responsibilities:
  • Monitor production NGS pipelines on a daily basis to ensure successful execution and data integrity
  • Identify, triage, and resolve pipeline failures, data quality issues, and workflow bottlenecks in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with wet-lab scientists to diagnose sequencing and data processing issues and escalate as needed
  • Track pipeline performance metrics and generate routine status reports for laboratory and quality teams
  • Support onboarding and validation of new sample types, assays, or sequencing instruments into existing pipelines
  • Operate within the quality management framework of a CAP/CLIA/NY State-accredited laboratory
  • Maintain thorough documentation of pipeline activities, changes, and incident reports in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Assist in the development and review of standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to bioinformatics workflows
  • Participate in internal audits, proficiency testing, and quality review activities as requested
  • Contribute to pipeline development and optimization projects under the guidance of senior bioinformaticians
  • Write and maintain scripts in Python and/or R to automate data processing, QC, and reporting tasks
Education, Experience & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Computer Science, or a closely related field - or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience with NGS data analysis workflows (academic research, internship, or industry); advanced degree may substitute for experience
  • Working proficiency in Python and/or R for data manipulation, scripting, and analysis
  • Familiarity with common NGS file formats (FASTQ, BAM, VCF) and bioinformatics tools (e.g., BWA, GATK, samtools, or equivalent)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a systematic, documentation-driven approach
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively with both scientific and non-scientific colleagues
  • Experience working in or supporting a CAP-, CLIA-, and/or NY State-regulated clinical or diagnostic laboratory
  • Familiarity with quality management systems (QMS), SOPs, or laboratory compliance documentation
  • Exposure to workflow management systems such as Nextflow, Snakemake, or WDL/Cromwell
  • Knowledge of clinical genomics applications (oncology, rare disease, pharmacogenomics, etc.)
