What You Will Do:

We are looking for a Bioinformatics Scientist to support the operational objectives of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) through advanced genomic data analysis, bioinformatics programming, and computational biology support. This position is a full-time position located in Research Triangle Park, NC and is telework eligible.

Analyze NGS, GWAS, genomic, biological, epidemiology, and population-based datasets, including ChIP-Seq, RNA-Seq, miRNA-Seq, SNP/structural variation discovery, imputation, stratification, haplotype, pathway, principal component, meta-analysis, and related statistical analyses.

  • Interpret genomic and targeted population study data, associated metadata, gene expression, exon, tiling, promoter, microarray, and multi-platform results to extract biologically meaningful insights.

  • Develop, implement, deploy, and maintain bioinformatics workflows, custom programs, utility scripts, macros, algorithms, analytical tools, and computational processes supporting experimental design, quality analysis, genome/metagenome integration, and biological discovery.

  • Use commercial software, freeware, custom-developed solutions, and high-performance computing environments to support scientific objectives, maintain workstations, and identify relevant analytical software solutions.

  • Collaborate with biologists, statisticians, bioinformaticians, investigators, and research teams to design analytical models, support data collection and experimental activities, and participate in scientific programming, laboratory, and interdisciplinary meetings.

  • Prepare reports, protocols, technical documentation, publication-quality graphics, and deliverables supporting NGS analyses, GWAS studies, statistical analyses, workflow development, publications, training activities, and scientific presentations.

  • Present findings to investigators, bioinformatics teams, study groups, and external audiences, and develop and deliver bioinformatics training materials, presentations, tutorials, and short-course instruction.

What You Will Need:

  • Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Biological Sciences, Mathematics, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or related scientific discipline.

  • Minimum of FIVE (5) years of experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, genomics, or a related field.

  • Hands-on background analyzing next-generation sequencing data and genomic datasets.

  • Working knowledge of Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS).

  • Background performing bulk RNA sequencing analysis.

  • Skilled in conducting microbiome, phylogenetic, multi-omics, microarray, and cluster analyses.

  • Ability to work with large and complex biological datasets.

  • Proven ability to develop bioinformatics pipelines and analytical workflows.

  • Proficiency with R, Python, MATLAB, Perl, Shell scripting, Unix/Linux environments, and Java.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary scientific teams.

  • Ability to prepare technical reports, scientific documentation, and publication-quality visualizations.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD "public trust"; candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an active public trust or suitability are preferred.
