Job description

Position: Varsity Baseball Coach

Job Summary:  The Varsity Boys' Baseball Coach is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the junior high varsity baseball program. This includes developing student-athletes' skills, fostering sportsmanship and teamwork, and promoting a positive and inclusive environment aligned with District 90 educational mission.

Qualifications/ Minimum Requirements:

  • Previous coaching or playing experience in baseball preferred.
  • Knowledge of baseball rules, techniques, and training methods appropriate for junior high athletes.
  • Ability to work effectively with middle school students and foster a positive team culture.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Current certification in CPR/AED and First Aid (or willingness to obtain).

Reports to:  Athletic Director and works in coordination with the Head Coach. 

 Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and conduct effective practices focused on skill development, teamwork, and game strategy.
  • Instruct student-athletes in the fundamentals of baseball, including hitting, pitching, fielding, and base running.
  • Promote good sportsmanship, character, discipline, and respect among players.
  • Supervise athletes during practices, games, travel, and related activities to ensure safety and appropriate conduct.
  • Foster a team culture that emphasizes effort, respect, accountability, sportsmanship, and hard work.
  • Develop game strategies and make in-game decisions that support team success and player growth.
  • Monitor student-athlete academic performance and encourage academic accountability.
  • Communicate effectively with players, parents, school staff, and administration.
  • Maintain equipment, uniforms, and facilities in an organized and safe condition.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies, district guidelines, and athletic association rules.
  • Attend coaches'meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events as required.

Time Commitment:

  • Requires availability after school hours, evenings, and occasional weekends.
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, often in varying weather conditions.
  • Moderate physical activity, including standing, walking, and demonstrating athletic techniques.

Selection Procedure:  It is not necessary that you contact the District #90 administrators to request an interview.  The following procedure will be followed:


1.  Applications will be reviewed.

2. Based upon the assessment of the application, the most promising candidates will be contacted for a personal interview.

3. Following the interview process, a written recommendation will be prepared supporting the employment decision.

4. The recommendation for employment will be presented by the Superintendent to the Board of Education for consideration and action.

5. Those Candidates who were interviewed will be notified of the Board's decision.
