JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Barista Department: Food & Beverage

Salary Range: $13.85 Reports to: Food & Beverage Director

Employment Status: Seasonal FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


POSITION SUMMARY

Baristas are responsible for operating our Gramma Betty's outlet. Baristas will prepare a variety of beverages along with food items for our guests in a friendly and efficient manner, while enhancing the quality of our customer service. Baristas will work in close collaboration with colleagues and follow established health and safety standards and enhance the service and goals set by Antelope Point Marina.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

  • Greet guests in a polite, positive manner and create an atmosphere of hospitality;
  • Take customer orders, answer questions about the menu items and make recommendations;
  • Prepare and serve beverages and food items according to customer preferences and established recipes;
  • Possess a working knowledge of all food, beverage, and specials on offer for our guests;
  • Convey all pertinent guest information to staff and management;
  • Ensure guest satisfaction and assist guests in their dining experience;
  • Check on guests periodically to ensure all needs are met to their satisfaction;
  • Operate point of sale system to accurately process payments;
  • Operate espresso machines, coffee grinders, and other equipment to prepare a variety of hot and cold beverages, including coffee, espresso, tea and speciality drinks;
  • Handle cash, credit cards, and other forms of payment, providing correct change and receipts;
  • Work closely with colleagues to relay pertinent information and function efficiently as a team;
  • Must work efficiently and in a timely manner even during times of increased business;
  • Maintain cleanliness and health code standards of the restaurant;
  • Possess the ability to react productively to other duties as reasonably assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Previous barista or food service experience preferred, but not required; Basic knowledge of coffee preparation and espresso machines (training available); Strong customer service and communication skills; Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; Dependable and punctual; Ability to stand for extended periods; Food Handler’s Card (required prior to start date); Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION

High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Knowledge or ability to be trained in point of sales system. Knowledge or ability to be trained to operate espresso machines, and other equipment. Ability to gain knowledge about coffee brewing techniques and gain familiarity with different types of coffee and blends.

  • Guest relation skills which allow calm, effective, polite and professional resolution of guest problems or concerns.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in fire extinguisher operation.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

The incumbent must be able to work around water. Employees are expected to promote a safe working environment for themselves, coworkers, and our guests.

Position/duties may require lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling objects up to fifty (50) pounds with assistance if reasonably needed, while reaching or handling materials, supplies, tools, equipment and/or debris.

Must be able and willing to work a flexible and potentially rotating schedule, including weekends, holidays. The position is also subject to "on call" status outside of regularly scheduled shifts to address maintenance tasks which require immediate attention.

Employee will work both indoors and outdoors and at times in extreme weather conditions when reasonable.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Antelope Point Marina policy regarding employee performance evaluation. The employee understands that a 90 day performance evaluation may be conducted to discuss job responsibilities and performance requirements. Should the employee not meet the performance standards of the position, APM management reserves the right to terminate the employment relationship or relocate the employee to another position within the company, if available.
