Job Description

Are you ready to navigate your way toward a new career? Ingram Barge Company is looking to bring both entry level and experienced deckhands onboard to support our fleeting operations in East Carondelet and Sauget, IL

                                                               Before applying please note:

                                                Must have Drivers Licenses and a Valid TWIC card.  

Our schedule for this role is a 7/7 Dinnerbucket (12-hour shifts for 7 days a week; 7 days off). You will be assigned to a vessel after completion of Orientation. Due to this schedule, you must live within 1-hour of this location since you will be going home after each shift. Candidates wishing for a position working a 28/28-day schedule should apply to the Linehaul Deckhand posting. Regardless of assignment and schedule, you will be reliable for your own transportation to and from your hitches.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Assisting deck crew in tow building (laying wires, tighten ratchets, sweep and shovel barges)
  • Daily vessel housekeeping (sweeping, mopping and cleaning crew living quarters)
  • Assisting with locking
  • Carrying rigging (ratchets, wires and straps) pumps, hoses and lines
  • Working outdoors for extended periods of time in weather conditions such as heat/cold & rain/snow
  • Checking barges for water and leaks – which at times requires climbing into confined spaces
  • Upkeep of vessel appearance includes sooging (washing), chipping and painting
  • Assisting the Engineer as requested
  • Practicing safe crew, vessel and tow operation using Ingram safety systems
  • Participating in safety drills and audits
  • Performing other related duties as assigned or requested

  • Must be able to read and write the English language in order to comply with USCG regulatory requirements
  • Must obtain a valid TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
  • Pass a post-offer process if an offer is made (background check, drug screen, physical)
  • Be able to lift and carry up to 110 pounds for up to 1000 feet
  • Be able to work in confined spaces often entered through a manhole
  • Be able to climb a ladder and able to board and ride in a skiff
