Job description

What We're Looking For:
The Survey Field Technician supports Barge Design Solutions' Geomatics team by assisting with field and office surveying activities that provide accurate data for engineering, transportation, environmental, and infrastructure projects. Working under the guidance of a Geomaticist or other technical professional, this entry-level role develops foundational surveying skills while contributing to data collection, field measurements, mapping, and project documentation. The position offers hands-on experience with modern surveying equipment, CAD, GIS, and data processing, providing a strong career path for individuals interested in geomatics, surveying, and engineering support.
Responsibilities
  • Copy and scan field notes
  • Assist his field supervisor (Geomaticist, Data Spe
  • cialist, etc) with all aspects of the daily workload
  • Sets up tripod and tribrachs over survey pointsCuts and clears brush and trees from line of survey, using brush hook, knife, ax, machete, chain saw or other cutting tools
  • Places survey stakes at designated points, as instructed
  • Cleans, carries and assumes responsibility for maintenance, proper use and safekeeping of all field instruments, equipment and tools
  • Ensures, through daily inspection, that survey vehicles have an adequate supply of equipment and materials for the day's operations
  • Maintains survey vehicles, parking area and office storage areas in a neat and orderly fashion
  • Performs such other duties as the Supervisor may from time to time deem necessary

Education & Experience Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • Prior experience as a rod man or instrument manpreferred.
  • Ability and interest inattending college to pursue a Geomatics degree highly desirable.
