Job Summary
The Entry Level Dispatcher serves as a vital communication link between the Tulalip Police Department and the Tulalip community. Ensuring that calls for service received by the Tulalip Police Department are handled appropriately and in a timely manner. The primary duties include responding to and addressing any emergency or non-emergency calls and providing necessary assistance or important information. Will log each call, dispatching field units on routes, prioritize, and organize calls for service. Utilizes confidential police computer systems to access and read warrants, court documents, and police files for officers. Files, gathers data, and operates two-way radio communication, phones, and cellular devices.
COMPLETED and PASSED the written test with Public Safety Testing and selected Tulalip Police Department. Website
Essential Duties
  1. Maintains contact with officers on duty to ensure that they are safe in the field and assist all officers with all assistance needs.
  2. Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service, prioritizing radio transmissions and dispatching emergency responders, to includes police and Fish and Wildlife calls for service.
  3. Enter and maintain accurate and detailed information into the CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch system).
  4. Operates and monitors two-way radio console, computer-aided dispatch (CAD) record management system (RMS), OMINIXX and Odyssey (court system), as well as monitoring the Audio and Video security system.
  5. Ability to accurately capture, retain, and relay verbal information while speaking clear English.
  6. Records and confirms warrant records, restraining orders, no contact order, and Tribal subpoenas.
  7. Operates the police service ACCESS computer system, WACIC and NCIC system to enter stolen items or missing persons.
  8. Read maps and relay directions as necessary.
  9. Coordinate resources and communications between agencies during complex or high-risk incidents.
  10. Keeps all emergency contact phone lists and the law enforcement contact list updated.
  11. Responsible for keeping all information and records confidential.
  12. Enter and modify information into a local, state and national computer database.
  13. Process all reports, copy and send them to the appropriate agency daily, and make a file for entered items into WACIC/NCIC.
  14. Maintains and keeps all office equipment in working order.
  15. Responds to all report requests per the dispatch policy when the records specialist is not available.
  16. Operates within the guidelines of the Tulalip Police Department policy and procedures.
  17. Regular and satisfactory attendance and punctuality.
  18. Other Related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Required Education
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Minimum Related Experience
  • One (1) year of experience utilizing verbal and written communications skills.
  • One (1) year of computer experience utilizing Microsoft Office programs.
  • One (1) year working in an office environment, utilizing multi-line phones.
Required Licenses/Certifications/prerequisites/other
  • CPR/First Aide Certificate. *Will allow six (6) months to obtain.
  • ACCESS Level I & II Certification. *Will allow six (6) months to be obtain.
  • Never been convicted of any felony or violent crime. Must pass a Tulalip Police Department background investigation that includes but is not limited to, completing a Personal History Packet, credit check, and passing a polygraph.
  • Must pass all TPD Police Background Investigation; polygraph, personal history packet and credit check.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
  • Applicant's qualifications and suitability will be assessed by the Chief of Police for hire.

Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of
  • Rules, regulations, and procedures, including safety procedures, such as CPR and first aid. Policies and procedures may refer to department policies and procedures related to emergency communications and disaster and special response plans.
  • MS Office Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Internet etc.
  • Telecommunications systems, which may include transmission, broadcasting, and switching systems, and computerized databases, including teletype operations and procedures.
  • Dispatch codes, as well as standard abbreviations and industry terminology commonly used by emergency medical services and law enforcement agencies.
  • Jurisdictional boundaries, as well as thoroughfares, landmarks, public buildings, and waterways within the jurisdiction.
  • Criminal behavior and procedures relating to Tribal, State, and Federal laws.

  • Work a flexible rotating twelve (12) hour shift that includes days, swings, graveyard shifts and holidays.
Physical Requirements
  • Dexterity for the operation of a computer, office machines, and routine paperwork.
  • Tolerance for exposure to computer screens, for up to twelve hours per day.
  • Must have adequate vision and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, to effectively perform the essential duties of a law enforcement dispatcher.
  • Stamina to sit, stand, and/or walk for prolonged periods.
  • Mobility to bend, stoop, and/or climb stairs on an everyday basis.
  • Strength to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
