Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: This entry-level position supports Construction Project Managers in assessing and documenting contractor activities for compliance with construction documents on assigned projects. Assists with meeting client expectations, construction administration activities, quality assurance/quality control, schedule tracking, documentation, and coordination of project activities during the post-design phase. Will work in both office and field settings under the direction of a Construction Project Manager.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Perform general construction and field observation.
  • Read and interpret construction plans and specifications for quality assurance during construction process.
  • Help serve as point of contact for designated client(s). Works directly with internal and external clients and contractors.
  • Supports completing detailed construction reports using MS Word, MS Excel and Procore.
  • Monitor performance of contractors and have the ability to confront design compliance issues with contractors when identified.
  • Assist with site visits and contractor compliance assessments.
  • Participates in pre-construction/status update meetings.
  • Observe and report safety or compliance issues.
  • Eager to engage with project teams with a focus on Alternative Project Delivery promoting quality results and excellent customer satisfaction
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skill & Abilities:

  • General knowledge of construction practices and methodology
  • Ability to interpret and understand plans and specifications
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Exhibits initiative, responsibility, and flexibility
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Procore, and related technical software with experience or ability to learn
  • Good time management skills with ability to handle complex deadline driven workload with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to pass safety classes and exhibit safety oriented mentality
  • Good math skills
  • Self-Motivated and ability to work independently and also in a team of professionals
  • Good technical writing skills
  • Effective human relations skills to build consensus, resolve conflict and confront/address design compliance issues with contractors and/or design professionals.
  • Ability to learn, utilize and promote the company's use of new technology and processes

Education: A Construction Management or Civil Engineering degree or similar, or 2-year degree from technical school or college with equivalent experience preferred.

 

Experience:

0-3 years' construction, survey, and/or field observation experience. Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel required.

Certification Expectations:

Certifications have reciprocity in some states. Assistant Project Manager will need to obtain appropriate certifications for work assignments, and will receive direction from manager on certifications needed. Assistant Project Manager must pass all required certifications and maintain those certifications throughout employment.  Certifications that may be required include but are not limited to:

  • Railway Worker On-Track Safety
  • E-Rail Safe
  • Safety Orientation
  • 10-Hour OSHA
  • Confined Space
  • First Aid, CPR and AED 

Travel Expectations:

Overnight travel is required. Assistant Project Manager travels in company vehicle or personal vehicle to project site staying near project site during the work week with expenses paid.  Depending on whether the assignment is an office based or project location, position travels may be up to 20-80% of the time. Valid driver's license with good driving record required. 

Other Information:

This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing under the authority of the Federal Railroad Administration. The selected candidate will be required to pass a DOT FRA drug test as a condition of employment in this position. 

Working Conditions:

  • Work will involve outside field work and have exposure to extreme weather conditions and nature elements.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and balance.
  • Position may have extensive walking.

*Post offer, pre-employment lifting test will be required.

An offer is contingent upon successfully passing the pre-employment drug screen. Drug screen will need to complete within 48 hours of being contacted.
