Job description

Aviator Paving Company is currently hiring an Asphalt Paving Operator. The Asphalt Paving Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of asphalt paving machines used to place hot mix asphalt on roadways, parking lots, driveways, and other paved surfaces. This position works closely with the paving foreman, screed operator, roller operators, and ground crew to ensure asphalt is placed accurately, safely, and in accordance with project specifications and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Operate asphalt paving machines to place hot mix asphalt at the required width, depth, and speed
  • Monitor material flow from haul trucks into the paver hopper to ensure continuous paving operations
  • Coordinate with the screed operator to maintain proper mat thickness, grade, and cross-slope
  • Maintain consistent paving speed to produce a smooth, uniform asphalt surface
  • Follow grade stakes, string lines, and project plans to ensure accurate placement
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of paving equipment
  • Conduct routine maintenance, lubrication, and cleaning of the paver
  • Identify and report mechanical issues requiring repair or maintenance
  • Work closely with truck drivers to safely receive and transfer asphalt material
  • Assist with setup, loading, transport, and shutdown of paving equipment
  • Communicate effectively with the paving crew to maintain production and quality
  • Observe and follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and traffic control procedures
  • Assist with general labor duties when paving equipment is idle or as directed by the foreman
  • Complete daily equipment inspection reports and production documentation as required

Position Requirements Include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of heavy equipment operating experience in civil construction, site development, or roadway construction preferred
  • Experience with site clearing, underground utility installation, grading, and paving preparation
  • Ability to operate multiple types of heavy equipment safely and efficiently
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of construction plans, grades, elevations, and utility layouts
  • Ability to work overtime and occasional weekends as project schedules require
