Associate Computer Scientist (ACDP): Accelerate Your Career in Defense Technology!
Are you an ambitious computer scientist looking to fast-track your career while working on systems that command the global airspace? The 517th Software Engineering Squadron (517SWES/MXDPA) is seeking a motivated professional for our Accelerated Compensation for Developmental Position (ACDP) program.
This is not a standard entry-level role; it is a dedicated launchpad. Under the direct mentorship of a Senior Computer Scientist, you will undergo a structured, rapid-growth development plan to reach your target grade of NH-03. As your skills grow, you will apply them directly to the Theater Battle Management Core System (TBMCS)-the sole command and control (C2) system used by joint and coalition forces to execute global air campaigns.
What you will accomplish:
As a developmental specialist on our team, your daily focus will be on mastering your craft while making a tangible impact on national defense. You will:
- Fast-Track Your Technical Mastery: Complete a formal Training and Development Plan, progressing through assignments that become increasingly complex and impactful as you build your knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Learn from the Best: Work under the direct guidance of elite Senior Computer Scientists, absorbing invaluable formal, informal, and on-the-job training in a high-stakes Air Force environment.
- Power Global Air Campaigns: Contribute to the sustainment of the TBMCS, the critical software that builds the Air Battle Plan (ABP) and disseminates the Air Tasking Order (ATO) and Airspace Control Order (ACO).
- Support the Joint Force: Write and sustain the code relied upon by Air and Space Operations Centers (AOCs), Navy aircraft carriers, Marine Corps Air Wings, and North American Air Defense Command (NORAD).
- Achieve Full Performance: Meet all regulatory training requirements and successfully navigate the complexity of defense software to graduate from this developmental role into a fully independent, high-level technical expert.
Write the Code That Commands the Skies. Why take a standard software job when you can learn from the best while supporting the Department of War's most critical missions? The ACDP program offers accelerated compensation, structured mentorship, and a direct path to senior engineering roles.
If you are a driven computer scientist ready to embrace complexity, accelerate your career, and ensure our warfighters maintain absolute air superiority, I highly encourage you to apply. Join the team that secures the ultimate high ground.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Obtain & maintain a security clearance
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
- May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours
- Designated as a Non-Critical Acquisition Position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP)
- Drug testing designated position
-Obtain and maintain Cyberspace certification
Recruitment Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
1. Professional knowledge of computer science, policies, theories, principles and concepts to apply to scientific methods and techniques to solve assigned problems.
2. Professional knowledge of theoretical foundations of computer science, including digital computer systems
architecture and systems software organization.
3. Professional knowledge of computer science and related disciplines to design, develop and adapt scientific
methods and techniques to recommend solutions for computer problems.
4. Ability to analyze, interpret and apply computer science procedures in a variety of situations and recommend effective solutions to senior scientists.
RESUME: Your resume may NOT exceed two pages, and the font size should not be smaller than 10 pts. The two-page resume ensures the most relevant experience is reviewed and considered, which is a common practice in both the public and private sectors. You will not be considered for this vacancy if your resume is illegible/unreadable. Additional information on how to complete the two-page resume is located at https://help.usajobs.gov/faq/application/documents/resume/page-limit.
Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period. Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
Click the apply button to complete an application and upload a resume no more than 2 pages (PDF Form) and/or additional documents (Transcripts, certifications, Vet Docs (DD214), SF-50).
