Job description

Accounts Payable Clerk
Employee Liability Management (ELM) | Mobile, Alabama
Full-time, On-site | Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. | Paid Weekly
Are you organized, dependable, and interested in starting a career in accounting?
Employee Liability Management (ELM) is looking for an entry-level Accounts Payable Clerk to join our Accounting team in Mobile. This is an opportunity to learn foundational accounting, benefits-payment, and payroll-support processes in a professional office environment while working alongside an experienced team.
You do not need prior experience with Sage Intacct or PrismHR—we provide training. We are looking for someone who takes pride in accurate work, meets deadlines, asks thoughtful questions, and wants to build a long-term career in accounting.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you will help ensure that benefit carriers, vendors, retirement plans, and other payees are paid accurately and on time. Your work will directly support our clients and internal teams.
  • Monitor benefit-payment schedules and process payments by each client’s required due date.
  • Process payments through Sage Intacct and secure online payment portals.
  • Maintain payment records in established spreadsheets and systems.
  • Work with Benefits Specialists to follow up on reconciliations and verify that billed and paid amounts are correct.
  • Process weekly garnishment, third-party, and 401(k) payments.
  • Run scheduled reports in PrismHR, review transactions for voids or exceptions, and prepare checks for mailing when needed.
  • Assist with general accounts payable, including reviewing vendor bills, coding invoices, and routing items for approval.
  • Create bill imports and maintain organized electronic documentation and support files.
  • Respond professionally to routine internal and external payables questions.
  • Learn and follow established accounting procedures, controls, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Assist with other accounting projects and routine tasks as assigned.
What Makes You a Good Fit
This position is a strong fit for someone who enjoys organized, detail-oriented work and wants a genuine starting point in accounting.
  • You are dependable, punctual, and able to work on-site in Mobile Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
  • You are comfortable working with numbers, lists, deadlines, and repeatable processes.
  • You carefully check your work and speak up when something does not look right.
  • You can use Microsoft Excel and Outlook for everyday business tasks, such as entering information, sorting or reviewing data, and communicating by email.
  • You are willing to learn new systems and procedures, including Sage Intacct and PrismHR.
  • You communicate professionally and work well with a team.
  • You handle confidential financial, payroll, and benefits information responsibly.
  • You are curious, willing to ask questions, and interested in learning how accounting processes work.
Qualifications
Required
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic computer skills and comfort using Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to work full-time, on-site, in our Mobile office.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred, but not required
  • Coursework, certificate, or degree progress in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience in an office, banking, customer service, data entry, payroll, benefits, accounts payable, or bookkeeping environment.
  • Familiarity with accounting, payroll, or HR software.
What You’ll Learn
This is more than an invoice-entry role. You will build practical experience in:
  • Accounts payable and vendor-payment workflows.
  • Benefits billing, due-date management, and reconciliation review.
  • 401(k), garnishment, and third-party payment processes.
  • Accounting systems, including Sage Intacct and PrismHR.
  • Documentation standards, internal controls, and confidential-data handling.
  • Multi-client and multi-state payroll-support operations.
Employees who demonstrate reliability, accuracy, and initiative may have opportunities to expand into additional accounting or payroll responsibilities over time.
This opening is available because a current Accounting team member has advanced into a new role within the department.
Benefits
  • Medical insurance with company contribution.
  • Dental and vision coverage.
  • Company-matched 401(k) plan.
  • Paid time off.
  • Company-paid life insurance and voluntary supplemental insurance options.
  • Christmas Club.
  • Weekly pay.
  • Competitive pay based on experience.
How to Apply
Please submit your resume and answer these short questions:
  1. Are you able to work on-site in Mobile, Alabama, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.?
  2. What interests you about beginning or continuing a career in accounting?
  3. Briefly describe a time you had to keep track of details, meet a deadline, or make sure your work was accurate.
