Position Summary:

AAA United States, Inc. is seeking skilled Mechanical Designer – 2D/3D Modeling to support shipbuilding and marine construction projects.


Essential Functions:

  • Create and refine technical drawings in both 2D and 3D environments.
  • Reviewing work completed by CAD Drafters to ensure quality and accuracy, maintaining design standards, and supporting multiple phases of vessel construction.
  • Interface regularly with engineers, production leadership, and other design teams to coordinate efforts across disciplines and meet strict project timelines.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree or higher in CAD or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of 3D modeling experience is necessary, along with three to six years of experience in shipyard design, construction, or a related production environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, a proven ability to work within deadlines, and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications are critical.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D and 3D) is essential, including the ability to use basic drawing and modification tools, manage layers and line types, set dimensions and units, create orthographic views from isometric drawings, and build 3D models based on vendor or design information.
  • Able to manage external references (XREFs) and model in a 3D environment without interferences.
  • Experience with ShipConstructor software is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Navisworks for design review and coordination is also advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of design principles across multiple areas such as equipment layout, electrical systems, outfitting, foundations, hull structures, HVAC, material selection, piping, and overall product hierarchy.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, structural key plans, compartment layouts, and electrical diagrams is necessary to produce accurate 3D CAD models.
