This position will serve as the data analyst and programmer for multi-institutional, collaborative, pediatric cardiology clinical data repositories / registries, under the umbrella of Cardiac Networks United. There are currently ten registries that participate in Cardiac Networks United, including the Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Consortium (PC4), the Pediatric Acute Care Cardiology Collaborative (PAC3), Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Outcome Collaborative (CNOC),Congenital Cardiac Research Collaborative (CCRC), and others. This position will be embedded in a University of Michigan pediatric cardiology research core, M-CHORD, which currently consists of 15+ staff, including 4 existing data managers who focus on data management for the CNU repositories.

Both independently and as part of a team, provide feedback on the design of, and oversee timely and accurate completion of, research and quality improvement projects utilizing data from the data repositories. Projects may be initiated by investigators both internal and external to UM.

Utilize excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills, to engage with stakeholders on a daily basis. This position requires collaboration with other data managers and analysts for multi-registry efforts, therefore the applicant must be comfortable communicating and programming in a team environment.

Interact with principal investigators/executive leaders of individual networks to develop data collection tools, software specifications, and to compose data dictionaries.

Design, implement and maintain complex databases including validation checks, monitoring of standards and procedures, and assure protection and security.

Integrate data from multiple sources and perform complex programming to prepare data for meaningful and appropriate analytics. Able to assess and revise programming by more junior data analysts as necessary.

Serve as a liaison with software vendors and other third-party collaborators supporting Cardiac Networks United (or similar) to develop data entry and reporting platform software.

Assist with writing manuscripts, project reports, and grant applications.

Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Epidemiology, Public Health or Related Equivalent Field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Extensive experience in database design and development, including normalization and automated data quality assurance required.

Extensive experience using SAS data step techniques and macro language or similar statistical programming experience required.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.

Extensive experience in database management with progressive responsibility required.

Ability to set up computers, monitors, and peripheral devices, including keyboards, mice, and webcams.

Ability to effectively utilize remote support resources.

Remote computing support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via phone, chat, or ticketing system.

Employees are expected to communicate effectively and work directly with support resources to resolve most computing issues.

Experience in analysis of administrative and/or clinical health data preferred.

Experience in training and mentorship of junior colleagues.

Experience using Git-based version control systems preferred.

High-speed internet service is required and is the responsibility of the employee.

Occasional onsite attendance may be required for meetings, technology-related needs, or work that cannot be completed remotely.

This position may require in-person attendance at out-of-state conferences and meetings.

Workspace will be available at the business location when onsite work is necessary.

While some flexibility in work hours is available, employees must maintain availability during Eastern Time Zone business hours to support meetings and collaboration, including video conferencing.

The employer will provide computing resources, including required software applications, VPN access, desktop or laptop computer, monitor, webcam, keyboard, and mouse.

Employees are not provided with a mobile phone but will have access to computer-based telephone and fax technology.

Office furniture and equipment, including desks, chairs, and printers, are not provided.

Basic office supplies, such as paper and pens, are available for pickup at the business location.

Unless otherwise approved by a manager, additional hardware, software, printing expenses, and employee-preferred office supplies are the responsibility of the employee.

Supervision Received:

General supervision is received from the Co-Directors of M-CHORD, the Co-Directors of CNU (currently external to UM), Principal Investigators, the Administrative Manager, and the Lead CNU Data Manager.
