Job description

We are a 45-year-old company with a loyal, long-standing customer base and a strong reputation built on an established product portfolio. Our systems handle complex data processing and scalable architecture, where reliability and data integrity are paramount. We are now entering a new phase of growth with the introduction of a new product designed for a new market.

As FairCom's Engineering Manager, you will be the primary driver of Agile maturity and the architect of our software testing strategy. This role will ensure that complex technical initiatives are delivered efficiently, predictably, and with high quality, while aligning cross-functional teams around shared business and product goals.

If you are an effective Project Manager, a JIRA expert, and want to work with mission-critical database technology, this role may be the perfect fit.

The Day-to-Day:

  • As a key facilitator of Agile practices, you will fulfill Scrum Master-like responsibilities, ensuring productive ceremonies, removing delivery bottlenecks, and optimizing team velocity to ensure predictable, high-quality releases.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and implement improvements to enhance delivery predictability and team performance.
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Product, Chief Architect, and Director of Engineering to ensure technical alignment and execution excellence across initiatives.
  • Design, implement, and lead the end-to-end software testing lifecycle. As the manager of Quality Assurance, you will move beyond "gatekeeping" to build a culture of baked-in quality across development, product, and documentation.
  • Set up processes, tools, and cadences for communication, project planning, project tracking and documentation, issue tracking and documentation, metrics, dashboards, and reports.
  • This role is the direct manager of the QA team and partners with the Director of Engineering to project manage & implement effective agile practices to ensure effective communication & collaboration between departments.

*This is an in-office position in either of our offices in Sandy, UT, or Columbia, MO, with opportunities for a hybrid schedule post-onboarding.

Requirements

  • A formal degree in Computer Science, Software Design, and/or other Bachelor's degree with equivalent on-the-job experience in Engineering.
  • 5+  years of experience in software project management and leading development teams.
  • A Scrum Master certification or a PMP certification.
  • 1+ years of QA management experience.
  • Must have a passion for software development that drives you to give 110% on delivering an exceptional product each time.
  • Familiar with the basic concepts of a typical IT infrastructure, like servers, storage, business applications (ERP, CRM, BI, etc.), and the role a database plays in it.

Position Preferences

  • Experience coding in C, C++, Python, Java (JDBC), and/or PHP
  • Experience working with IoT and IIoT.
  • Experience with FairCom DB, RTG, EDGE, IoT/IIoT, or competitors such as Litmus, Ignition, Influx, EnterpriseDB, MariaDB, etc.

Benefits

  • Empowered, Agile Teams: Collaborate with passionate colleagues in small, cross-functional teams that drive innovation. Enjoy the freedom to shape your work and contribute meaningfully.
  • Flexible Work-Life Balance: Achieve optimal work-life harmony with our hybrid work schedule, offering the best of both worlds: in-office collaboration and remote focus.
  • Generous Time Off: Recharge and rejuvenate with 15+ holidays, three weeks of paid vacation, a week of sick leave, and an extended holiday break for quality family time (skeleton crew operations).
  • Celebrate You: Enjoy a paid day off on your birthday and another on our annual "CEO Thank You Day" in March.
  • Invest in Your Growth: Benefit from a supportive environment where long-tenured colleagues share their expertise, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Rewarding Compensation: We value your contributions. Expect a competitive salary package aligned with industry standards.
  • Comprehensive Well-being Support: Protect what matters most with our robust benefits, including top-tier medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage. Plus, watch your savings grow with our 401(k) matching program.
  • Thrive Together: Build lasting connections and strengthen your skills through annual & quarterly engaging company-wide events and growth opportunities.
  • Fuel Your Focus: Stay energized and inspired with our fully stocked kitchen featuring delicious snacks, meals, and drinks.
  • Convenient Commute: Easily access our office with a prime location near I-70 in Missouri and I-15, as well as the South Jordan Front Runner station in Utah.
