What is an enterprise system?

Enterprise Systems are large-scale software platforms that organizations use to manage and integrate key business processes across departments, such as finance, human resources, supply chain, and customer relations. These systems help improve efficiency, data consistency, and decision-making by providing a centralized framework for information flow. Common examples include Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), and Supply Chain Management (SCM) systems. Implementing an enterprise system can streamline operations and support business growth, but it also requires significant planning and change management.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in enterprise systems, and why are they important?

To excel in Enterprise Systems, you need a deep understanding of information systems, IT infrastructure, and business processes, often supported by a degree in information technology or computer science. Familiarity with ERP platforms (like SAP or Oracle), database management, and relevant certifications such as SAP Certified Application Associate or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator are highly valued. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help professionals bridge technical and business requirements. These skills ensure seamless integration, optimization, and support of complex organizational systems that drive business efficiency.

How does an enterprise systems professional typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

Enterprise Systems professionals frequently work cross-functionally, partnering with departments such as finance, HR, and operations to ensure that integrated software platforms meet business needs. They often act as a bridge between technical IT teams and non-technical stakeholders, translating requirements and troubleshooting issues. This role requires strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, as projects often involve coordinating upgrades, migrations, or new system implementations with minimal disruption to daily business processes.

Job description

PECO is seeking an Enterprise Systems Architect to help shape the future of our business technology landscape. This strategic role is responsible for ensuring that applications, integrations, data platforms, infrastructure, and emerging AI capabilities work together as a secure, scalable, and cohesive enterprise ecosystem.

Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, the Enterprise Systems Architect serves as the bridge between business strategy and technology execution. This position partners with business leaders, subject matter experts, developers, project teams, infrastructure resources, and technology vendors to design practical solutions that support growth, operational excellence, modernization, and intelligent automation across the enterprise.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior technology professional who can think holistically across the organization, communicate effectively with both technical and business audiences, and guide architecture decisions that create long-term value.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Design enterprise technology solutions that align business priorities with PECO's long-term architecture strategy.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable solution architectures and implementation roadmaps.
  • Establish architecture standards, design patterns, governance processes, and technology best practices.
  • Drive alignment across applications, integrations, data platforms, infrastructure, and AI-enabled solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes, reduce technical debt, modernize systems, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Lead integration strategy across APIs, EDI, middleware, data exchanges, and third-party platforms.
  • Improve enterprise data architecture, including system-of-record governance, data flows, accessibility, and quality.
  • Evaluate software platforms, vendor solutions, and emerging technologies for business fit, scalability, security, and maintainability.
  • Support PECO's cloud-first strategy through Microsoft Azure architecture and modernization initiatives.
  • Partner with leadership to identify and prioritize AI-enabled business capabilities and intelligent automation opportunities.
  • Provide architectural guidance throughout project lifecycles, from concept through implementation and support.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, security, development, and business teams to ensure solutions align with enterprise standards.
  • Develop technology roadmaps that support business objectives and future growth.

JOB-RELATED COMPETENCIES:

  • 8+ years of progressive technology experience, including experience as a Senior Developer, Solutions Architect, Systems Architect, Enterprise Architect, or similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience designing enterprise-scale solutions spanning applications, integrations, data, cloud platforms, and infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of C#, enterprise application architecture, and Microsoft technology platforms.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure services and cloud architecture principles.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise integration technologies, APIs, middleware, EDI, and system interoperability.
  • Ability to evaluate competing technology options and recommend solutions that balance security, scalability, cost, maintainability, and business value.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to connect technical decisions to organizational goals.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business language.
  • Experience collaborating with executive leadership, business stakeholders, project teams, vendors, and technical resources.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with Azure Integration Services, Dataverse, Microsoft Fabric, SQL Server, and Azure data platforms.
  • Experience supporting ERP platforms such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or comparable enterprise systems.
  • Experience with CRM platforms, EDI solutions, and enterprise integration architecture.
  • Knowledge of architecture governance frameworks, design review processes, and technology standards development.
  • Experience leading application modernization or technical debt reduction initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Copilot, Azure AI Foundry, agentic AI concepts, and AI-enabled business solutions.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Relevant industry certifications are a plus (TOGAF, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect, Azure AI, etc.).

WORK LOCATION:

  • Ability to commute to Itasca, Illinois office 2 - 3 days out of the week.
