Job Description

The Engineering Technician supports product design, development, testing, documentation, and production launch activities. Working closely with the Product Development team, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Product Management teams, this individual helps ensure product quality, performance, and manufacturability while meeting project schedules and cost objectives.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
  • Create, revise, and maintain technical drawings, 3D models, and engineering documentation using CAD software such as SolidWorks, while ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with production teams to identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues that may impact product quality, productivity, or manufacturing schedules.
  • Create, maintain, and update product Bills of Materials (BOMs), ensuring the accuracy and integrity of components, subassemblies, and assemblies.
  • Assemble, test, and validate prototypes and samples to support product development and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Design, build, and implement jigs, tools, and production fixtures to improve assembly, machining, welding, and overall manufacturing efficiency.
  • Participate in investigations and problem-solving activities related to manufacturing, quality, and supplier issues.
  • Manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) by incorporating required modifications into BOMs, drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, standardization, and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as required to support departmental operations.
Skills and Minimum Experience Required
Qualifications

       Education: College diploma (DEC) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.

       Experience: Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

Skills
  • Proficiency with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software; SolidWorks experience is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Bill of Materials (BOM) management software and ERP systems (such as Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Bills of Materials (BOMs) and document management processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain focus while performing technical tasks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Bilingual in French and English, with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages
Assets
  • Experience with Oracle.
  • Knowledge of CSA, UL, and other product certification standards and requirements.
  • Experience in the lighting industry.
  • Experience with SolidWorks.
