Overview

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for a ID&C Engineering Technical Specialist supporting TOS II, at Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) at Arnold AFB, TN. The Engineering Technical Specialist will work as a member of an integrated team responsible for operating and maintaining the United States Air Force Test Operations efforts at AEDC.

This position requires occasional scheduled extended hours and/or weekend work to meet critical contractual requirements and rare unscheduled night or weekend support in emergency situations.            

Job Summary

The individual hired into this position will serve in a support role to Instrumentation, Data & Control (ID&C) Engineering staff. The individual selected for this role will work alongside ID&C test operations engineers in the assigned test facilities performing field support and daily activities associated with configuring the required ID&C systems for on-line test operations and maintaining the Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) and Computer Equipment supporting the assigned facility.

This ID&C Engineering Technical Specialist position will be deployed to the Aeropropulsion Test Facilities; however, ID&C Engineering Technal Specialists may be reassigned to other areas based on workload demands and mission needs. ID&C Engineering Technal Specialists may also support multiple test areas/facilities as required. 

 

Job Duties:

Job duties of this position include but are not limited to the following duties worked in conjunction with ID&C engineering staff assigned to the test facility.

  • Select and apply standard methods, techniques, procedures and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications.
  • Independently perform test support project assignments associated with the setup and configuration of data, control, and instrumentation systems per test customer requirements; company standards, procedures, and work instructions; generalized senior engineer and/or supervisor direction: and other precedents of the discipline.
  • Participate in one or more of the following:
    • Assign instrumentation and control test requirements into available systems and patching. Ensure test cell hook-up limits are not exceeded. Coordinate with engineering and user to define requirements are within facility capability.
    • Coordinate and assist in development, review, approval and vaulting of ID&C related work instructions.
    • Coordinate release and execution of test work instructions and support craft personnel in the configuration, setup and validation of dynamic and/or steady-state data and instrumentation systems required to meet test customer requirements. Lead craft personnel in the configuration, setup, and validation of dynamic and/or steady-state data acquisition and instrumentation systems required to meet test customer requirements.

    • Analyze and/or evaluate instrumentation, data and/or control system operation during test operations based upon techniques prescribed by senior engineers or supervisors to ensure that systems are functioning to specifications during test operations.
    • Respond to and resolve ID&C discrepancies as they arise during test operations. Report problems to senior engineering staff and management. Communicate root cause and resolution of lost time events and other issues affecting test operations to company management personnel and test team members.

    • Maintain the inventory of Test Measurement & Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) required for test operations in the assigned facility. Includes managing the inventory and maintaining location and calibration records to ensure that the required TMDE is available and calibrated when required for test operations.
    • Perform Information Technology Equipment Custodian Duties (ITEC) for the assigned facility's IT equipment.
    • Provide other ID&C related support services to the test team as required to meet test operations requirements.
  • Monitor and report progress for own assigned work tasks.
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Any equivalent combination of relevant vocational or other relevant education and/or training and specialized progressive experience for a minimum total of eleven (11) years; or Bachelor's degree and seven (7) years of relevant or specialized progressive experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network.
  • Current U. S. Citizenship required.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active DoD secret or higher-level security clearance
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of transducers, sensors, electrical circuits, signal processing, and data acquisition systems used to measure temperature, pressure, force, flow, acceleration, vibration, and other physical phenomena common to aerospace systems testing.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication and group presentation skills.
