Position Summary:
Reporting to the director of North America Engineering, the Controls Engineering Leader designs, develops and supervises all aspects of electrical control systems, equipment, and machinery. Responsibilities include the installation and technical support of PLC and motor control hardware. As the functional expert you will champion the safe and successful implementation of control system upgrades and equipment control modernization. This is a multi-plant responsibility and travel is required to fulfill the role (up to 25%).
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain a high level of knowledge of wire and cable equipment and processes.
  • Serve as a mentor to maintenance control technicians throughout the region providing engineering support and direction for maintaining electrical and electronic equipment in a manner which optimizes operational performance and safety.
  • Manage assigned projects which include cost estimations, designs, specifications, approvals, procurement, installation, startup, cost control, safety and overall implementation to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Manage outside electrical engineering, construction, and consulting firms.
  • Manage outsourced repairs of critical electronic components. Maintain an awareness of the equipment spares inventory and offer recommendations for adjustments and critical spares as required.
  • Assist the in the preparation of the annual capital and expense budget for management review.
  • Adhere to all Corporate and Plant practices and policies in all aspects of work and ensure compliance with Federal, State and local electrical codes, and regulations.
  • Develop, write, and de-bug control logic for machine control, make design modifications and improvements to complex electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment.
  • Analyze and interpret electrical schematics to the component level as required to support repairs and return equipment to operation.
  • Utilize programming devices to analyze PLC programs for failures or improvements. Maintain detailed records of critical process variables and ensure that programs are logical and as comprehensible as possible.
  • Provide remote support to electricians in critical situations troubleshooting, repairing and programing AC/DC drive systems.
  • Troubleshoot issues utilizing current technology including electrical test equipment and computer diagnosis equipment.
  • Carefully and thoroughly document all electrical work. Keep existing documentation current and accessible to other team members. Ensure that copies of software are up-to- date and available to the rest of the Electrical Team Members and that sufficient back-up copies are maintained in a safe location.
  • Work with the Operations to solve manufacturing problems, initiate productivity improvements, and identify future opportunities.
  • Liaison with Engineering and Maintenance Teams.
  • Lead standardization efforts on motors, drives, and other electronic components.
  • Perform other related duties as per direction of the Manager.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Advanced computer skills required including PLC programming and CAD. (Experience with Aveva/Wonderware a plus).

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or an associate degree in electrical/Electronics (Or equivalent work experience)
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in manufacturing, (wire & cable experience highly desirable).
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:
  • Will work in both factory and office conditions.
