Position Summary
TheSportandPerformance Psychologist is an embedded position in the HealthandCounseling Center (HCC) that is funded by the Athletic departmentandthe HCC.TheSportandPerformancepsychologistworks with intercollegiate student-athletesandserves as a liaisonto the athletic department. TheSportandPerformancePsychologistis responsible for mental health screening (pre-participation evaluations), triaging requests for Mental HealthandPerformancebased treatment for student-athletes within anintegrated health care clinic,along withservingstudent-athletes through regular office hours, educational programming,andconsultation with staff within the Department of Athleticsandacross campus. The Sport and Performance Psychologist serves as the primary supervisor for a sport psychology track doctoral intern and, at times, a secondary sport psychology graduate student trainee, and provides group supervision for the sport psychology team (intern, primary graduate student trainee, and secondary graduate student trainee) housed within the HCC. The Sport and Performance psychologist is also responsible for supervising all doctoral interns for ADHD/LD evaluations and managing assessment platforms, materials, and purchasing. This position also supports University of Denver's Athletic teams through consultations and team performance sessions when possible and upon coaching staff request.This is a full-time,40 hour a week,12-month, benefited positionandreports to the Director of Counseling Services.

DU Athletics competes in several highly competitive conferences - the West Coast Conference, the Big XII conference (Gymnastics), the Big East conference (women's and men's lacrosse), the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, and the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association.
Essential Functions
- Manageandprovide specialized counselingandsportpsychology services specifically for the DU Department of Athletics NCAA Division I student-athlete population.
- Coordinate sport psychology staffing with sports medicine staff for annual pre-participation evaluations for all newcomer student-athletes for the purposes of screening mental health issues and introducing spectrum of sport psychology services.
- Provide crisis intervention services via both our daytime crisis system (Counselor of the DayandCrisis Time coverage for athletes)andserving as back-up support fortheafter-hours on-call system.
- Supervise a limited number of ADHD/LD evaluations for student-athletes.
- Consultandcollaborate closely with the Deputy Athletic Director for Pioneer Health and PerformanceandMedical Director/Head Medical Team Physicianto ensure holistic student care.
- Collaborate with all Pioneer Health & Performance staff (Sports Medicine, Sport Dieticians, and Sport Performance Coaches), as well as head coaches for 18 Division I programs.
- Recruitandsupervisea clinicalsportpsychologytrack doctoral intern and doctoral level practicum student.
- Developanddeliver outreachprograms, workshopsandpsycho educational group presentations to student-athletesand teams, and attend practices and events as schedule allows.
- Consult with DU Athletics personnel, parents, faculty, etc., when appropriateandwithconsentin order toprovide quality of care.
- Maintain a diverse option of providers to accommodate student-athleteandAthletic Department preferences both on campusandthrough outside referrals.
- Maintain clinical records within a HIPAA medical records system.
- Generateyearly reports related to volume of clinicalandteam services.
- Superviseandparticipate in thedevelopment ofgeneralisttrainees, including practicum students, internsandpostdoc/postgraduate fellows.
- Demonstrate sensitivityandcompetency in working with the full range of diverse groups.
- Perform additional professional service as individual skillsandinterestsandagency needs indicate.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed or license- eligible within three months in the Stateof Colorado as a psychologist (Ph.D. or Psy.D).
- Specialized training inPerformanceandSport Psychology.
- Experience with supervisionandcrisis intervention.
- Experience working with college athletes, preferably ina high-profile intercollegiate athleticssetting.
- Experience with ADHD/LD evaluations.
- Experience integrating the principles of Inclusive Excellence into the workplace.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications or licensed by professional organizations (e.g., APA, ACA, CMPC).
- Experience working in competitive athletic environments.
- Experience working with a multi-disciplinary team.
- Experience withinjury-related psychological services, (i.e. health or pain psych)
- Experiencein university/college counseling center.
- Experience with outreach, preventionandgroups.
- Experience supervising ADHD/LD evaluations.
Working Environment
- Standard office environment.
- Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
- Noise level is quiet to moderate.
Physical Activities
- Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Nights and weekends as needed.
