Overview:

At Pembina, growth creates opportunity. The Static & Rotating Equipment Engineering team is growing and is actively hiring a Rotating Equipment Engineer/Specialist to join the Operations Engineering organization. In this highly specialized role the individual will provide technical expertise and strategic support for critical turbomachinery assets across our natural gas pipeline systems, including Gas Generators, Power Turbines, and Gas Compressors.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with turbomachinery, preferably LM2500-series gas generators, along with a strong foundation in mechanical engineering. Whether you are already recognized as a subject matter expert or looking to build that expertise, this role offers the opportunity to work on complex assets, influence reliability strategies, and make a meaningful impact across a diverse operating footprint. While Calgary is the preferred location, the position may be based anywhere within the Operations Engineering area, including Alberta, Saskatchewan, North Dakota, Minnesota, Houston, Iowa, or Illinois.

The Static & Rotating Equipment Engineering team delivers specialized engineering expertise to maximize the reliability, integrity, performance, and lifecycle value of Pembina's critical mechanical assets.

The Operations Engineering Central team serves as Pembina's engineering center of excellence, providing technical leadership, governance, and strategic direction to optimize asset performance, strengthen reliability, and support safe and efficient operations across the business.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:
  • Champion Pembina's Zero by Choice safety culture and Life Saving Rules by embedding physical, psychological, and cyber safety into all work practices while taking personal accountability to maintain compliance, support audit readiness, proactively identify risks, and protect our people, assets, and data; 
  • Serve as Pembina's technical authority for critical turbomachinery assets, including LM2500, LM2500+, and LM2500+G4 gas generators, PGT power turbines, PCL centrifugal compressors, Siemens SGT-200 Tornado units, and Solar Taurus 60 gas turbines.;
  • Provide strategic leadership for the turbomachinery fleet, developing long-term asset strategies, overhaul philosophies, lifecycle plans, and maintenance investment strategies that optimize reliability, performance, and asset value;
  • Lead fleet reliability and asset health programs, leveraging condition-based maintenance practices, vibration analysis, lubricant monitoring, borescope inspections, and predictive technologies to improve equipment availability and reduce operational risk;
  • Act as the primary technical interface with OEMs, including Baker Hughes, Siemens, and Solar, providing leadership on complex technical issues, equipment performance, warranty matters, repairs, upgrades, and commercial negotiations;
  • Provide expert oversight of major repair, overhaul, and depot maintenance activities, including inspection planning, test runs, failure investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions;
  • Champion operational excellence through optimization initiatives focused on safety, reliability, fuel efficiency, emissions performance, and greenhouse gas reduction opportunities across the compressor fleet;
  • Lead Dry Low Emissions (DLE) management activities, including fuel mapping strategies and compliance with applicable environmental and regulatory requirements;
  • Provide enterprise-level expertise for auxiliary systems, dry gas seals, mechanical seals, lubrication systems, and related mechanical equipment, supporting safe and reliable operation across the asset base;
  • Support critical mechanical systems throughout the Cochin, Vantage, and AEGS pipeline networks, providing strategic technical guidance for pumps, seals, compressors, and rotating equipment assets;
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying emerging technologies, reliability best practices, and operational enhancements that strengthen asset performance and reduce lifecycle costs;
  • Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Integrity, Technical Services, Projects, and Commercial stakeholders to develop practical, risk-based solutions that balance operational, technical, and business objectives;
  • Mentor and develop engineers, technologists, and operations personnel, strengthening organizational capability and fostering a culture of technical excellence and knowledge sharing;
  • Demonstrate strong learning agility by embracing new technologies, incorporating lessons learned, and continuously enhancing technical expertise to support evolving business needs; and
  • Champion Pembina's values by fostering a safe, collaborative, equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace where employees are respected, engaged, and empowered to contribute.
Qualifications:
  • Recognized subject matter expert in turbomachinery with 10+ years of experience supporting the reliability, performance, and lifecycle management of critical rotating equipment;
  • Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent combination of industry experience and specialized technical training;
  • Deep technical expertise with industrial gas turbines and compressors, including BHGE LM2500-family gas generators, Siemens SGT-200, and Solar turbomachinery platforms;
  • Proven experience influencing equipment design, fabrication, commissioning, overhauls, and asset lifecycle strategies to improve reliability and operational performance;
  • Strong understanding of auxiliary systems, seal systems, process pumps, and integrated mechanical equipment packages;
  • Extensive field experience leading complex equipment troubleshooting, major overhauls, equipment exchanges, root cause investigations, and repair strategies;
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical challenges, assess risk, and provide clear recommendations in dynamic operating environments;
  • Ability to serve as a trusted technical advisor, balancing operational, reliability, safety, and commercial considerations when developing solutions;
  • Highly adaptable with a demonstrated ability to quickly learn, evaluate, and implement emerging technologies, tools, and industry best practices;
  • Willingness to travel and provide technical support across multiple operating regions and asset locations;
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business and operational recommendations;
  • Proven ability to influence decisions and build alignment across multidisciplinary teams, including Operations, Maintenance, Integrity, Process Safety, Technical Services, Projects, and Commercial stakeholders;
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with a collaborative approach to solving enterprise-wide technical and operational challenges;

Pay Transparency Requirement: The base salary range for this position is $143,100.00  USD to $159,000.00  USD.  Actual total compensation may differ based on candidate's qualifications and location. For a list of benefits offered, please visit: Working in the USA
