Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a self-driven and motivated Engineering Project Management Director to lead major Transportation, Bridge, and Highway projects. This hybrid role is based out of AECOM's New York City office and is ideal for a seasoned professional with a proven track record delivering Transportation Infrastructure projects in the New York City market.
The successful candidate will build strong relationships within the NYCDOT and other prominent regional transportation agencies, along with extensive experience managing large-scale public sector projects. In addition to serving as Project Manager on complex Transportation Infrastructure initiatives, this role will also function as Design Manager on alternative-delivery projects across the NY/NJ metro area.
Beyond technical and project leadership, this position plays a critical role in driving business growth, fostering client relationships, identifying new opportunities, and securing a diverse portfolio of Highway/Bridge and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate combines deep engineering expertise with strategic business development capabilities to advance the Company's presence and impact within the NYCDOT and the broader transportation market.
Responsibilities include:
  • Lead all Highway/Bridge related activities with the NYCDOT, ensuring alignment with AECOM's strategic goals and priorities.
  • Serve as the primary client liaison, cultivating strong, long-term relationships and ensuring exceptional service and satisfaction.
  • Drive business growth in the NYC Highway/Bridge market by identifying opportunities for expansion, innovation, and strategic positioning.
  • Collaborate on marketing and pursuit strategies, anticipating market trends and emerging opportunities to strengthen AECOM's competitive presence.
  • Lead business development efforts, including proposal development, strategic planning, and participation in interviews and presentations.
  • Develop and implement long-term business strategies while effectively balancing short-term priorities and evolving market demands.
  • Partner with clients and teaming partners to craft effective strategies and deliver value-driven, competitive solutions.
  • Lead and oversee CAM responsibilities to ensure successful project delivery, strong performance, and high client satisfaction.
  • Maintain primary fiscal responsibility for assigned projects, ensuring financial performance and alignment with client expectations.
  • Develop and execute succession planning to support sustainable growth, strengthen team capabilities, and ensure continuity within the Highway/Bridge business.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS Civil Engineering or similar field + 12 years of related project management experience on large-scale, high-profile, design build structures projects
  • Must have NYCDOT Experience
  • Professional Engineer License in New York State

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated track record of leading and managing high-performing technical teams, with accountability for project delivery, staff development, and stakeholder engagement
  • 20 years of related project management experience on large-scale, high-profile, design build structures projects
  • Extensive experience overseeing Agency initiatives and comparable large-scale, multi-phase infrastructure programs
  • Proven success in directing complex infrastructure projects from planning through construction, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives are consistently met
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences, including clients, regulatory bodies, and multidisciplinary teams
  • In-depth knowledge of local Highway Design Guidelines, Specifications, and Technical Standards, with the ability to interpret and apply them strategically across project phases
  • Significant experience leading multidisciplinary engineering efforts, coordinating and integrating design inputs
