Job description

Location: Eveleth, MN
Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opening for a Manager Mine Engineering based in Eveleth, MN. As a Mine Engineering Manager, you will provide leadership, direction and coordination in the planning, implementation, and improvement of mine operating and maintenance processes in the Minnesota mining operations with weekly travel required to Hibbing Taconite, United Taconite, Minorca Mine and Northshore Mining locations.
Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Direct and coordinate the development of short and long-range mine plans, budgets and targets of performance for the mining operations.
  • Direct, coordinate, and motivate department personnel to meet established plans, budgets, and targets of performance for the mining operations.
  • Direct and coordinate the plans, projects and programs to achieve the desired performance results in safety, quality, production, and cost.
  • Direct the administration of corporate, property, and departmental policies, work procedures, and systems, and ensure compliance with the collect bargaining agreements.
  • Determine equipment needs and participate in the selection and purchase of the new equipment.
  • Monitor key process indicators on a continuous basis to improve process efficiency, product quality and cost effectiveness.
  • Promote and encourage teamwork, establish high performance standards throughout the section, and oversee the disciplinary action process when necessary.
  • Coordinate and participate in safety and loss control programs.
  • Negotiate royalties with fee holders of the land.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Mine Engineering or related field or equivalent.
  • 8-10 years supervisory/managerial experience in mine planning, engineering, operations, and administration.
  • Ability to maintain ATF certification
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills such as team building and conflict resolution are required.
  • Willingness to promote team concepts and company policies.
  • Ability to motivate, delegate, establish, and work in a collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior Iron Ore Mining experience.
  • Experience with managing a unionized workforce.

The salary range for this role is $125,000 - $155,000. An employee's pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location and business or organizational needs.
